This happened to me yesterday travelling on French autoroute - first day of 2 week holiday.

Stopped for fuel a bit hot and tired and needed a pee. Paid for fuel and instead of carefully putting wallet inc passport in my jacket pocket I put it on floor under my helmet - behind me while I used the facilities.

When I picked up the helmet wallet gone. So that's cards, driving licence, passport.

Basically fucked. Staff didn't want to help. Thank god I had filled up with fuel so could get to final destination. And there have friends to help with cash.

But I will have to go to embassy in Paris for emergency travel doc, cost 92 euros, plus new passport later at cost of ?128, plus god knows what for new driving licence, plus hassle of new cards etc.

So - be very very careful about how you keep these things and probably keep them separately. It's really spoiled my holiday

Same as Robsbird here. What the fook were you thinking :bang:

Having said that, it's so easy to drop a bollock in the heat of the moment and then have smug cnuts after the event saying what a twat you are. We've all done summat daft at some time. ( Well, actually, I haven't. I've never ever dropped a single bollock at all in my life me)

Commiserations and at least you have friends who can help. Now get out there and ride. @tu*

Feel for you, sounds like someone was watching. Assume youve cancelled you cards?

Push it aside, enjoy the rest of your holiday. What done is water under the bridge and that you can't change.

Yeah I know , I know. But I was tired and hot and not thinking obviously. Bloody stupid. Hindsight is a great thing.

Anyway local gendarmerie has been helpful issued me with a doc to provide temp licence and dec of loss of passport which they say will be accepted for re entry to UK.

It's going to be a hassle sorting it all out.

Hopefully you won't get too much hassle at the port but just be prepared to have a bit of a wait IF you get stopped at border control. Border Force will probably want to know the ins and outs if your whole life but a check on their database will confirm that you did have a passport issued to you.

Which port are you entering the UK by?

Channel tunnel. I may be able to get copy of phot page of my passport emailed to me. Trouble is the passport office just offer a form to download and print. I don't have room for a printer on the 'bird!

The Channel Tunnel has juxtaposed controls so when you get there you will go through the French "Police Aux Frontiers" checks first, if they stop you, and then you will go through the British controls. I can almost guarantee that they will stop you. Tell them that it was stolen, show the papers given by the Gendarmerie and if you can get it sent to you, the number of your passport. Be prepared to be pulled to one side but you shouldn't be long. If you get spoken to by Kent Police, then don't panic or worry, we are a nice bunch!

Let us know how you get on.

I would imagine that as passport has been stolen, you may well be the second
Mr Sib8292 trying to enter the UK this month, so be prepared for checks

Hopefully he would have not had too many issues but it has been a good few hours since his last post...has he been wheeled off to the interrogation pit or gone to join the camp at Sangatte in the hope that he can catch a lift in the back of a truck?

You'd love Saudi Arabia, Mac.

it is such a shame we have to predicate against scum in all of our waking, and sometimes sleeping, time. These people should have their fucking fingers chopped off, and scum like this eradicated from the system.

You SHOULD be able to leave stuff laying around and no-one should touch it as it's not theirs. This was so refreshing when I was working in Canada, a much more honest place in the East of Canada.

Too many scum out there, far too many.

In the 1960s the King was out walking with companions. One of the companions picked up a valuable lying in the street and the King admonished him saying..."You should not have picked that up as it is not yours. You should have left it for the owner to come back for." He allegedly had his hand chopped off for theft! I heard this story from several sources out there.

Well it all seems OK, Eurotunnelsay that the police report will be accepted though I am sure there will be some delay. Indeed I would expect it as there isn't much point in the checking if passports process unless the absence of one causes some concerns. But as I have nothing to hide I think I will be fine.
