The Nazis intended that every future Olympic Games post their anticipated victory in WW2 woukd be held in a new purpose built stadium at Nuremberg holding an astonishing 405,000 spectators.

Work started in 1937 on building full scale models of the structure, once again letting an egotistical project get in the way of essential war work.

I have stood on the platform on the stadium in Nuremberg where that fella Hilter held his meetings.

Apparently it’s all rather illegal and we weren’t supposed to just walk up there. Actually we broke into it to get up the steps, not recommended as the Germans are a bit sensitive about anyone doing that. We heard they arrested a few others a while later.

The arena is huuuuuuuge and it’s frowned upon to drag race down it.

but it seemed pretty obvious to us at the time we should do it. They even have a race circuit alongside, from memory it’s called the Norrisring or similar

If the sun disappeared it would take eight minutes for us to notice.

Unless it was night time, in which case it would take longer. Obviously.

The U2 reconnaissance aircraft;

  • At maximum altitude (still classified but believed to be around 70,000 feet) the engine only produces 7% of the power it produces at sea level
  • in the event of a flame out it can glide for 250 miles from maximum height
  • in line with it‘s weight saving philosophy the tailplane is held on by just 5 x 5/8” bolts
  • every 1lb of weight = one foot less maximum altitude
  • As part of this weight reduction programme it was suggested that the pilots underwent colonic irrigation pre-mission. The pilots disagreed!
  • the fuel,was specially developed by Shell and is very close in composition to a weed killer that Shell were already producing
