Poland was the only country invaded by the Nazis that never surrendered.

Scotty from Star Trek served in the Canadian Army, was in the D-day landings.

He seems to have led his unit with some distinction.

Was injured by "friendly fire" by a nervous sentry on a bren gun! He lost his right middle finger from this.

He went on to become a military pilot with a reputation for being a bit "crazy"!

:)

1649 King Charles 1 had his head chopped off (all down to Oliver Cromwell)

1652 first coffee shop opened

I have this theory, if the coffee shop had opened 3 years earlier, then maybe KC and OC wouldn't have been so grumpy and settled their differences over a latte and cake :nusenuse:

The largest ordnance ever detonated in the UK was the ten ton Grand Slam bomb tested at The New Forest on 13 March 1945.

It was put into action the following day, destroying The Bielfield Viaduct in one hit, succeeding where 54 previous raids had failed. Photo below.

It is believed that the Grand Slam was the first, and possibly still only, bomb designed to be most effective by not hitting the target directly, plunging dart like into the ground before detonating and destroying by way of ‘mini earthquake’.
