Chuck Yeager fell off a horse and broke three ribs the night before he was due to attempt breaking the sound barrier in the Bell x-1. As a result he was unable to close the canopy of the X-1. Rather than ‘confess’, one of the engineers gave him a cut down broom handle that he was able to use to close the canopy.

In 1963/64 Crysler produced a turbine car.
The body was made in Italy.
A production run of the cars were distributed to around (I think) about 300 people.
It would run on basically anything that would ignite/burn - petrol, Jet A1, tequila etc.
They finally decided not to go ahead and recalled them all.
I believe two ended up in private hands, Crysler had the rest back and destroyed most of them.

The full and correct title DeLorepan sports car was the ‘DeLorean DMC-12’.

The ‘12’ was reflective of the US$12,000 sale price that was targeted in the DeLorean business plan.

When it finally hit the showroom it was US$25,000.

When John DeL got arrested for cocaine smuggling it brought a whole new meaning to taking the car in for a decoke

Most are aware that the first nuclear bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and the second on Nagasaki, thus bringing the war in the pacific and WW2 to an end. Few are aware that Nagasaki was an alternate target for the second bomb; the primary target was Kokura (now Kitakyushu). Kokura was spared as a raid the previous day had caused so much smoke the target was not visible.

There was a local fellow who got caught in the first blast and survived it, he then walked to the site of the second blast, survived that and lived to quite an age.

And it’s only now you mention it, typical. :risas3:
I know quite a lot of historical facts starting at the end of WW2 and going back from there as its all stuff I have been interested in for a very long time

The fact about the survivor came from a tv documentary about Hiroshima on the 75th anniversary a few years ago, for some reason I seem to think he lived into the 1980's
