Think I've upset some work colleagues today!

One of them posted on WhatsApp a link to an app "Corvid19UK"

A quick bit of research brought up suggestions that there might be GDPR issues.
A bit more research found that the chap behind it was involved in a similar research company in France and his business partner there is being investigated under French GDPR regulations.
A bit more research found that some of the university departments that the data is being shared with have apparently nothing/little to do with medical/corvid19 research but do seem connected with commercial use of technology.

I posted suggesting folks do a little research of their own.

The reaction is such that I now feel like A/beaker !!

I've been told the app is approved by doctors and nurses, that anything that might help is worth it, that GDPR rules don't matter in the face of corvid19 etc etc etc.

And you thought this place could be intolerant. It seems like I'm now the antichrist!

There is so much stuff flying around that it supposed to be 'reliable' and spreads like wildfire.

It's a shame as some of it may well be reliable but gets lost in the midst of the stuff that has an agenda, usually either political or commercial, behind it or is simply click bait.

Don't worry about being like me - it's actually a pretty decent existence:zplayita:

Which stuff has "an agenda", Mr Beaker? Could you provide some verifiable examples?
Also, could we have this thread removed to "The House of Commons" discussion forum, please?

Hah! “If you don’t know where to find me, I’ll tell you where to look”.

I miss “the old days and the old ways”. When we knew who we were “talking” with because we’d met, somewhere, in the “real” world and our interests in owning and riding bikes were the same, even though our real-time lives might be radically different. When we met, and drank, and argued and laughed and argued some more and ran (sometimes, quite literally) naked through the streets to be arrested or, thankfully, to arrive home to take to our temporary beds. Real world experiences meant we’d have the kind of shit to look back upon that became memorable. Memories. B.I.R.D. Bikes.

We were just bikers. Not “motorised cyclists”. Just bikers who enjoyed riding their bikes and talking, not just meaningless, empty bollocks, but talking bollocks that had real resonance, novelty and vitality. We didn’t “talk shit” for the sake of it, but because all our shit centred around what we’d done and where we’d been on our bikes – and with whom and for how long.

Being a B.I.R.D biker wasn’t a place of inanities, contention, disagreement and discord back then.

It was the place to be.
