Hurricane Katrina

I cant help but feel a sense of divine retribution in what has turned out to be a terrible disaster.

Of course I am grieved at the terrible loss of life, no one deserves to die in this events, but, and here?s the but that I feel good about?

USA is the world?s biggest polluter and refuses to do anything about global warming; in fact I?m sure they wont even accept that it exists.

Well now maybe they will sit up and take stock of what they are doing?.

I read in the paper today that they are considering abandoning New Orleans altogether and mobs now rule the streets killing people, looting and the overwhelmed cops can do nothing about it.

USA ? Under Siege Americans.

Whats that got to do with the people of New Orleans? If you choose not to help thats up to you...But isn't it just possible that someday you or your's may want some help from others?

I agree, what if the same happened in this country, would we expect the world to refuse aid because of our Government? I'd like to think that people were a bit more humane than that.

maybe just me

but I was astounded at the lack of preparation given the prior warning - help is on it's way - should have been there ready.....

No one deserves what has happened - easy for us in the UK where nothing on this scale happens....

I saw first hand what massive devastation happened after the Missouri and Mississippi burst their banks in the 90's - you cannot comprehend just how much gets wiped out....

Why the lack of a sense of urgency? Could it be that it's happened to one the poorest States, and that the majority of those affected are black?

I saw the 'teddy bear' in AirForceOne flying over the area, he seemed more interested in the state of the oil refineries than the residents in need of aid.

There's now been a series of massive unexplained explosions at the waterfront. The wire has reports of gangs raping women and murdering children.

Shoot the fucking animals.

makes you wonder dude....

you tell me about the lack of urgency and upfront planning. :bang:

That country is run by one screwed up dude - these folks need help and damn quickly. How can a first world country allow this to happen ? :dunno:

He manages to get aid out to an African country within a day!

It's a national disgrace what's happening out there. Apparantly the explosions were a chemical factory blowing up, so there's the possibility that the survivors of the hurricaine will now be engulefed by a cloud of toxic smoke..........

Teddy Bear has said, "we will help those who need help"............what commitment!

Hey Buzz - check these quotes from around the world:

Taipei's Taiwan News

New Orleans may go down in history as the first major city in an advanced country to be lost to the process of global warming... We sincerely hope that the Bush administration will take the call from Hurricane Katrina and reconsider its energy and environmental policies and replace ostrich-like escapism with leadership in the global effort to deal with the crisis of global climatic change.

Hong Kong's Ta Kung Pao

This Katrina hurricane is a 'warning' by God over President Bush's reactionary behaviour on the Kyoto Protocol. The US government should wake up from this big disaster, truly take up its responsibilities as a great nation, and become the forerunner in protecting the global climate.

Australia's The Daily Telegraph

Katrina has wrecked not only the physical corporality of civilization. Now there are unmistakable signs in the hurricane's aftermath of the collapse of ordered society. Communication has become virtually impossible. There is no power, no fuel, no food. And looters are at work. This in the United States, the most powerful nation that has ever been.

Germany's Die Tageszeitung

The fast and safe evacuation was white, leaving behind poor black people, as if time had stood still between the racial unrest of the sixties and today.

El Salvador El Diario de Hoy

It is difficult to make light of one fact: that climate changes are at play, which are causing increasingly violent events... Katrina was just a warning.

I reckon old Georgie boy was eating Pretzels, bumped his head (again), woke up watching a satellite channel showing old weather forecasts by our very own "No Hurricane" Michael Fish, didn`t realise that he was talking about the UK - nothing matters outside the US unless oil is involved + the yanks are (mostly) geographically dense and dismissed it as a nothing to worry about.

Wow, some of you folks over here really have some twisted minds. You all sure seem to concern yourselves with our country WAY too much. Your country is not exactly the acme to which all others strive to be

I know I am comming onto your own home turf here, but I think a little more compassion might be in order. Even if you do not agree with our president (as many Americans do not either); that is no reason to try and say that our citizens do not need all the help they can get-don't blame them for his actions or inactions...

Absolutely agree with you there.

What a disgusting response from some folk here. I can't believe somebody has said about not expecting international aid. The people of N Oleans didn't ask for Katrina.

It should be remembered - if the US withdrew all it's internatinal aid around the world, millions of people would suffer.

But yes, GWB does need to get things swung into action a lot quicker than is happening at present. Shame on him.

I refer to the above. people all over the world are suffering, (yes even in UK & USA) because of their Governments actions and inactions, What has happened in New Orleans is a terrible tragedy, what is happening in the aftermath is an abomination, if this was to happen in the Middle east, GWB and Billy Liar would be sat at a table thrashing out a rescue plan.
our leaders seem to have no problem trying to solve other country's problems but haven't got a clue how to resolve issues on their own doorsteps.

My sympathy's to all the people affected by this tragedy.
