Getting a reg number

At a guess I would suggest contacting DVLA and they would either sell it to you or enter into the monthly auction.
I could be talking through my backside but I thought that if a plate had been issued to a vehicle and was still on the vehicle when it was scrapped the plate was also scrapped.
If you had previously bought the plate, things may be different.
Though if you wanted to keep the plate you would have to re register the vehicle in it's original plate before scrapping.
But I thought that if the plate went with the vehicle then the ownership went with it.
I have a plate on my Tourer that was put on by the previous owner, if the plate remained his, then what would stop him claiming it back years later?

Something I am, at the moment, trying to avoid ( for obvious reasons...you never know just how well developed the shrubbery masquerading as a human will be that you hrt to talk to ! )
If the reg number has been used and then the car and reg scrapped ….. the chances of getting hit back is virtually zero !
IF however it is on retention somewhere …. You may be in luck !
on VERY rare occasions the DVLA have slipped up and reissued a plate ….
I've always understood it as the car that it is on has to have a current MOT for you to transfer it.

OK, apparently as I paid for it and used it before, there is a way to apply for it back if no longer used

That is on aa Ford Galaxy, and J11VVS is on a 2 series BMW
