Fury-ous! (Spoiler - don't look if ya don't want to know!)

Still kickin' it!
Nearly all good boxers have a route to the top planned where they will avoid fights they think they might not win, Mike Tyson didn't seem to care in the slightest with a line them up & I will knock them down sort of attitude that impressed me no end

Yes - Ali, Frazier and Foreman had that same characteristic.
Tyson Fury seem to have the same sort of attitude although I have been reading that all is not well in the camp with his old man saying he should retire

Fury has his own demons to fight, and I hope he achieves the victory he deserves on that battlefront, too.

Anyone else think that Serena Williams is Mike Tysons long lost sister...? I can just see her as a boxer. :dancer2:

“Cheated”? Well, the attempt was made to extend the interval, but it failed demonstrably. “Spark out”?. No. Ali was severely stunned, but his chin was a rock - as Joe Frazier declared after their first fight. The “split glove” incident? It added less than five seconds to the round, but, after the fight, the press hyped it up until it became five minutes!

Start watching at 12:30 if you’re only interested in the knockdown. Use your stopwatch to check the interval - I got 64 seconds, which is four seconds over the minute - but it’s hard to hear the bell. If you watch the whole thing, though, you’ll see what a rough, tough and crafty old bugger ‘Enery was, despite his lovable persona outside of the ring.

Very interesting, Mastaaah (y)

Worth pointing out that The-Artist-Formerly-Known-As-Cassius-Clay was revived after 'Enry's 'Ammer with smelling salts which, if my understanding is correct, was illegal in European boxing at the time.

Your understanding is correct, Grasshopper; but I believe that smelling salts were used freely in American boxing until the seventies - and they are still in use in sports other than boxing e.g. hockey, American football, power lifting etc. even as we speak.

Angelo Dundee, the trainer of “The-Artist-Formerly-Known-As-Cassius-Clay” (more familiarly known as Muhammad Ali), was never reprimanded or sanctioned for his actions, despite his cheating.

Anyway - here’s a fine example of “holding and hitting” - which is also illegal in boxing.

Ok, ya got me, Mastaaaah :D

Tell yer what else I read, too. Apparently, Ali was ‘playing’ with ‘Enry in the third round and could have taken him any time (so the story goes, but he wanted to keep going so he could go for the KO in the fifth to keep in line with his pre-fight prediction.

Almost brought a tear to my eye, too. Whether it's the respect Mo clearly had for 'Enry, the fact they remained friends, the phone call on the 40th anniversary, or the tribute after Sir 'Enry passed away, I dunno. I love that picture of the two of them, too!
