I can't see why there is a need for parent/child parking - I have 2 youngsters and can cope with parking in a normal bay - open the doors without damaging anyone elses property.

Parking in disabled bays - anyone who does this should be banned from driving. It must be difficult enough having a disability so having some privileges hopefully would make life easier.

good for you  and how many others can also do this?? :dunno: you know as well as the rest of us the "4X4" crowd cant do the same and how about the ignorant twats that not only don't give a toss for anyone else's property, but seem to actively go out of their way to park awkwardly,??
I'm NOT defending the parent parking bays for the parents sake, but for the sake of all the other motorists that will have doors bashed into them by the people unable to do as you and I can!! :dunno:

And while we are on a rant.

Has anyone noticed that 'a certain type of car' usually gets parked so as to take up two spaces ( with the line of the bay under the middle of the car).

Is it cos 'they' have paid a lot more than other people for the BMW / Merc / Jag etc... Or is it cos its a company car, didn't cost them a dime, and they are just ignorant knobs?

I find it annoying when the numb twats park with the drivers side wheels right on the line dividing the parking bays. I take great delight in parking the 4x4 so close that they have to climb in through the passenger side...

Yes!! - now there's an idea. Take up TWO parent/child spaces so they can't reach my car with their doors. And I drive a BMW too!!

Cheers Murt!

You have to admit tho... MOST of the cars I see parked like that ( and I spend a lot of time on car parks for one reason or another) are 'top of the range' names.
( and some are 4X4's as well. )

Bigger Plop.

It's not just the "4x4" crowd -whoever they might be: cos there's a few wnakers driving non 4x4's too - but whilst us blokes may not struggle with a week's shop, three screaming kids and a twat who parks 5mm away from your door so one can't get the kids out of the pushchair into their car seats in the back of a 3-door Micra, a few Mums might............. If you CAN manage this and have actually experienced it FIRST HAND and still don't feel the need: Great!! Don't use em and leave em free for the poor sods who can't.

I do have a slight vested interest in that I have a 4x4 - but I don't park in disabled bays or over lines: I usually park away from the store where there's more room and too far away from the front door/disabled space for your average tosser driving a clapped out XR3i to even consider parking next to me and stoving in my doors - I can do that for myself with the hazelnut tree that USED to be in my drive !! LOL

And don't start with all that green, woolly liberal crap about 4x4's either - not when you're sat astride a ballistic missile that does nearly three times[ well 2.5 x's then] the top legal limit - Non-Necessary is a subjective thing................

No MURT it's cause they eventually got fed up with paying out to get the doors fixed 'cause some other pratt can't open and close theirs without making bleeding dents in 'em. I've got three such dents in one door having had two fixed not long ago.
However, I look for nearly empty floors in multi storyes and parking bays with extra room etc...... However, I've found some car parks where the bay width is so poor I can't get out of the car if parked within the marked bays - in those I use two - so there!! :neenaw:

well as a gas gusling large people carrier driver ( toyota previa ) I CANNOT get into some car park spaces these days as they are so small, so have to use two spaces  but tend to abandon it in the furtherst away corner of the car park but i still get the odd abusive comment about taking up two spaces.............

that is until they see it is a 6ft 3 skin headed thug getting out, then they tend to go all quiet :neenaw:

Sorry D & D, I just saw the chance, and took it..

I'm actually well pissed off by the dangerous door openers on car parks as well, if it wasn't for them MOST people would park better.
I do ( usually) try to park in a considerate manner, but sometimes its just too difficult to be the only sensible parker amongst hundreds of people who don't try so hard.

Barrie. HAVE A GOOD ONE AS WELL ( But in Black).

My local Sainsbury's used to have inadequate bike parking with large steel bars that were far too close together to get a Bird between and get off. It was so crap I preferred to use the bicycle parking area that was protected by bollards and away from the cars.
Now they're tearing the car park up to build some more shops.

Morrisons by comparison has a nice area under cover, behind bollards and large enough for about 30 bikes!

My local Sainsbury's have recently expanded and re-designed the carpark, and renamed the 'Mother & Baby' spaces, "Parent and Baby" spaces - so as not to be accused of being sexist I'd presume......... they've got a couple of guys contantly patrolling the car park and if anyone parks in a "parent and baby" space without a car-seat in the car they are slapped with a ?30 fine, same goes for the disabled spaces.

How legal is a ?30 fine, whats to stop you just telling them to fuck off and dont pay.

I dont believe able bodied people should park in disabled places. But think like a lot on here, that Mother and baby places should be put away from the entrance. Most mothers and kids need the exercise.

and I think

most 4x4 drivers are arrigant self-important wankers with small dicks and parking in a supermarket carpark is the abouts as far off road as they go.

"So you don't take a buggy into the supermarket, there are trolley bays all over the car parks so no need for your child to walk at all.If your going to make a point of what I said then please copy ALL the relevant bits into it you twat. I said my daughter walks from the car to the trolly bay, from there she is sat in the trolly while we do the shopping! my point & I believe it to be a meaningful and valid one is why the F*ck should you have preferential treatment just because you have young children? Why not? From your origional comment you said why not put the parent and child spaces towards the back of the carpark. Whys that? Why should you get the preferentioal treatment. You can walk, so why shouldnt YOU park at the back of the car park? Ask yurself another question, why was these spaces created in the first place? Public need. Public wanted 'em cos who, (Without being sexist), does most of the shopping? Mums. All be it single or married, the mums do the shopping often with kids in tow.

Oh and FWIW my wife is unable to work due to an as yet undiagnosed ailment with her legs, some days she finds walking very difficult, she has been like this for four years, but she doesn't claim disability and she doesn't park in disabled spaces." Without wanting to sound callouse, And??? My mother is the same. In fact my mother has been wheelchair bound for 10 years now. They have a disabled badge but they chose not to use it. This has what relevant point to the conversation Derek? I belive that you are trying to pick a row over parent and child spaces NOT the physical well being of your wife and my mother.

I still say why shouldnt parents with babies/small children be catered for? Most of here are parents/have been parents, (Though I am really not sure with one or two in here), most of us can remeber what its like to be in charge of the trolly with a monthly shop and a wee one. It aint easy so these nearer spaces are a godsend. For the record I do drive a 4x4, I also have a company car and a bike. I am considerate with parking bays and I will always straighten the car up before leaving it. I get really annoyed when some one parks inconsideratly in bays and have been known to take retallitory action against other cars who have bashed doors into mine. What really annoys me and I beleive these are the people that give us parents who use the parent and baby spaces a bad name are the people who will park there with their teenage kids OR with their 87 year old mother!!!!! THEY are the people that abuse it!

FWIW This is the exact reason I am now begining to think that this forum is a total waste of my ?10 per year, most people in here do nothing but moan and whinge. From what I can remeber derek you had a pop at mums with buggies in shops last year, now its parent and baby spaces. Do you have anything else better to do? Are you the one writing in to points of view signing "Annoyed from Barnsely"? FFS Derek, all this has come about because of your moan against someone that was parked in the motorcycle bay. Wanna know the reason people like that WILL park wereever they damwell want? Cos the Supermarkets are too frightened to do anything about it. The carparks are on private land, 9 times outta 10 so the supermarkets CAN clamp but they chose not to because it will put people off shopping with them.
