Only four paying to support the site. Are times so hard that a few quid is un-affordable? :dunno:

I was looking up something :-0) It's my opinion and am happy to take some shit for it if it offends and happy to be corrected if wrong.

My understanding is that Bird is one of over 70 forums under the Wiz? franchise and I pressume all give the option to be a free member, a sponsor or a super sponsor.

I looked at that list of other forums included and genuinely I would not use a single one other than Bird. Was the payment entirely going to Bird I think I would pay it, that said Bird is the only forum I use that operates a sponsor payment programme albeit voluntary.

Given it seems to be getting less and less people in it as the bird was never replaced and the average age seems to be people who are now moving onto more comfortable bikes or retiring from biking then it is a forum that seems to be mostly contributed to, thread/post wise at least, by the same dozen or so people.

I enjoy the forum, even most of the people in it but If it became a pay as you go, I doubt I would pay for it. It is a voluntary thing and I am unlikely to be guilt tripped into paying it

I am gratefull it's free but as I said earlier, I have yet to come across a forum I use that uses the sponsor option.

In my case yes ! I can either spend a few quid on my bike or spend a few quid on the forums I use, I do appreciate the site & the help I have received here but when it comes to paying out the bike wins every time.

I was the only sponsor online at 3.47 this morning.

For what it's worth the Help section has more than covered the cost of my sponsorship in saved garage bills over the last how ever many years it is. Seems like a fair deal to me.

The only other forum I visit is Volvo Owners Club which is free - but carries external sponsorship.

What Andy says.@tu*

I am a member of other forums which are free. I choose to sponsor them also. I think that the money paid is a fraction of the money I would have otherwise spent attempting to fix problems without the advice freely given.

Not picking on slimey but, to use him as an example, how much money would he have spent unnecessarily attempting to sort his bird out? A lot more than ?10 I would imagine.

The cost of hosting forums is not insignificant and along with advertising revenue, sponsorship goes to pay for these costs. I doubt JAWS has retired on the money he receives from bikersoracle.

:-0) no problem fella @tu*

The honest answer to that is probably no more than the small fortune I have already spent but without the help & advice from people here it would have taken me longer & I do appreciate the help :-0)

On other sites I use I have become a sponsor or full member not through paying but by supplying parts or doing work either for free or at a greatly reduced cost, unfortunately there is not currently much I can offer here that is blackbird specific apart from my own experiences with the one bike

The person whom I was refering to seemed to take it as banter, without needing smillies to inform him of this.@tu*

Where did you find the list as I have been trying to find any forums under the Oracle banner that are still running without success.
I thought they had folded after 'the troubles'.

Bikersoracle Ltd is a commercial company. As a commercial company they (Keith, Clive and I think one other if I remember correctly) decide what access they want to give without charge. I guess they do so in the hope that some will want and be willing to pay for increased access and functionality.

I don't get what why some keep on about being a sponsor - I have been in the past and now chose not to.

It's not a charity, it's a business making business decisions.

On the top of the bird page to the left in red it says "sponsor the club" , click on that and it takes you to the bikers oracle shop page, scroll down a few inches and you will see in red the the ?15 cost and just under that again in red it says options with a drop box that says please select. Click on that and it will show the full list of forums under the oracle banner

But if not enough people sponsor then they will have no option but to bring in advertising.

I get that and have no issue with it - however, when I read 'parasites' etc it makes me wonder if some on here realise this isn't like the local bike club, who aren't out to make a profit.

I frequent other forums that do have advertising and am quite happy sponsor those to have access to the forum areas that interest me.

If Keith & Co thought advertising was the right business decision I'm confident it would happen - regardless of sponsorship.

What would be nice is if you could opt to sponsor anonymously without any extra functionality.

Would get rid of all this freeloader crap that gets thrown around
