Ferry to Spain ?

Murt

Letch
I am in the early stages of the 'Murt visiting Costa Blanca on the BB' trip in early June.

I don't really want to ride through France (Don't start me off), and The ferry trip to Santander from Plymouth seems a bit of a plod ( but interesting).

Apart from the Bilbao ferry, does anyone have any other options on routes??

If I MUST do the France bit, how long is it likely to take ( On my own, no pillion )
to Alicante area. as I don't know the inland roads ( Stay away from Cities, do the motorways mostly etc).
Thanks in advance.

OH... AND..
Can you get the reclinable chairs on the Bilbao route, can't find any info about what's on the ferry?? Ta.

Sorry Steve, you cant get reclinable chairs on the bilbao route...

A cabin is a requirement of the trip by the ferry company...

Bag of shite, but there ya go...

We are doing the trip later on in the year, so will have the same problems, but I may just splash out on a commodore (premier) class suite.:-:

Our trip will include the Pyranese, Andorra, the south of France, Italy & the alps, and back up through Germanysmilie_koc, and maybe Denmark then home via Esjberg-Harwich...

Cant wait...

Best wishes to you & San.

Cheers,

Rolfy & Jan

Thanks Rolfy.

I thought it may be cabins only, but I will be on my own as San don't do the pillion thing any more ( Or I will have to get my mate to do the trip with me).

I have been doing some nice routes through Spain on google, just need to find out if the roads it shows are 'roads'. :lick:

Do you know of any 'special rates' on the Bilbao route, it seems very expensive.

All the best to you an Jan for the new Year.

Right... I have just spent half an hour trying to attach a google maps route but cant :bang:

So.

Roughly this is the route I am considering. I would like to 'make progress' but also take in some bendy bits on the way, perhaps with a B and B about half way. It appears to be about 500 Miles.

Bilbao> AP68 towards Burgos and then N111 towards Longrono.

N111 towards Soria. N122 / N234 towards Calatayud, / Daroca ,then towards Sagunto a Burgos.

A2510 ( Daroca) onto A23. Teruel/ Almansa, then onto A226 towards Ronda de Ambeles.

Then N234 again onto N330/ 330a. Towards Requena, then Novelda/ Elda/ Aspe.

N235 to CV875 towards Almoradi then CV910 towards Guardamar.. I Know the roads in that area then. ( onto N332 to Guardamar de Segura ).

It looks like some of the middle route is in mountain regions, but the map won't zoom in enough to check. Sorry if I have missed some of the main parts out, but I'm still getting to grips with Mapsource and its little tricks, and the flaming map keeps returning to steight lines between waypoints!!!

Thanks for any advice.

Murt, have you thought about the French motorail .. will take you to the south, close to the border ... bound to work out cheaper than the ferry ..
Wiz and Muppet use it for the Oracle tours so they would be able to give you some advice??? just a thought mate and another option :dunno:

Pride of Bilbao is a long crossing Murt, 34 hrs I think the last time I did it (two nights on board), but I like it on there. There's plenty to do, bit of cabaret style entertainment in the evening if that's yer bag.... and the food on there is great!

The Brittany Ferries ship 'Pont-Aven' to Santander is a much quicker vessel, crossing in about 21 hours - one night on board - but is very dull on board compared to the P of B imo, ie, the entertainment was dreadful and there was no atmosphere.... it reminded me of a channel crossing to Calais, all rushed and impersonal and the food was awful.

Having done both, if there was the time available, I would choose the P of B every time.

You're right about cost. Either is expensive. Last summer's return on the Pont-Aven for me + bike was ?331

Oh thanks for the fright!
You are welcome to come and stay at the house whilst we are sunning it up.
Can you feed the kids, clean up, and re stock the fridge as they are both still at home, and are arguing about who is have which party on what night   ( but it may be interesting to be about when Emily has her mates round for the party)

And having checked the bank account, you will see that i spent all the 'funds' on the holiday and pizza.
brok3

Oh.. And thanks for the ferry info Rob, looks like the Bilbao trip at the mo.

That would be great but I have a feeling we will be arriving Barcelona on 11th mid to late afternoon.

We leave UK 9th 12.00am ferry from Portsmouth to Caen arrive 7.30 on 10th , then 7 hours down to Limoges, stopping over just outside Limoges, leaving Am 11th down to Barcelona, but if you want to swap Moibys no problem.

Hi Tank,
I have been down that way from the UK to Barcelona (Lloret de Mar really but its only 40 miles on to Barcelona), except I went from Calais but we did stop at Limoges. Off the top of my head, Limoges to Barcelona is about 460 miles - depending on which way you go I suppose..
There are some nice roads around Limoges but I did stay on the peage as we were in a bit of a hurry..
Yep that would be a good idea to exchange mobiles as its easy to get lost in Barcelona, and once lost it's a bugger to get out of! p0pc0rn41
