This has me puzzled !!!!

I've not heard of anyone else doing the look fix .... F@@king up the ECU ??
And do you REALLY need a full loom ???
Reckon Jaws and quite a few others could sort this one fairly easily

I may be wrong ?????

Did you disconnect the battery ??

What voltage / wattage was your soldering iron ???

You seem rather unlucky with the bird .... You have had more problems than most in the last few weeks .... In fact more problems than I have had in 12 years of ownership (and yes I did my own loom fix !)

I'm certain the rest of the Bird community feel for your frustration .....

The Bird REALLY isn't that complicated or that expensive to fix .... Persevere and you will be happy with your Bird

i am going to put a new loom on just to be on the safe side /yes a full loom as the short i caused with the indicator was the problem so i am told but what do i no .. no i did not disconnect the battery and it was on charge at the time .. the soldering iron is for doing stain glass windows not sure of the amps it just gets hot and melts the solder so no problem with 10 wires in one go sh1tehppnssh1tehppns

It's a pity I didn't catch this thread a bit sooner, I have all the parts here to sort out the problem. If you want to send your ECM to me I will test it for you to confirm weather it's the ECM or the loom that is the problem.

All that will cost you is the postage both ways, about a tenner.

If your ECM is the earlier MAT-E01 they were prone to losing the chip coding.

I have done a few like this now and some times if you connect a lost coded ECM up to another known running bike it recognizes the coded chip again. Might be worth a shot before you go shedding out for new bits that you might not necessarily need.

Taff.

That's 3 days you could have carried on trying to work it out! Taffys postage is rapid too.

Ok, no problem, You do know that you will be looking around the ?350 mark for a good ECM and a loom?? That's a fair bit to take a gamble on.

My number is 07717477776 if you want to get in contact.

well if that is what it will cost to sort this bike plus the gen & rec/reg i have put on just for it to happen again

First I want to apologize if this comes across as harsh but it's not my intent but my intent is to see you on your bike riding and happy.

When someone does electrical work whilst the battery is still in and with the battery still attached to a turned on battery charger, I start to feel it will always end in tears and it is work outside of that persons comfort zone.

Before you spend another penny on anything may I humbly suggest, you hire a van for a day, load the bike into the van and take it as it is to either taffy or jaws.

The blackbird has very few problems but you seem to have got your self in a right pickle. These two gents will fix the bike properly, get it and you back on the road and will never rip you off

Given what's happened it will probably be the best use of your time and money and see the positives of blackbird ownership return and the problems be a thing if the past

not harsh at all i am a fooking twate for even trying to sort it my self after sorting the rec/reg & gen i should have left the loom fix well alone as the block was spot less :wank: and i would have been back on the road .. i give up and now it has sat at the work shop for 3 day and not had any work don to it after he said he would sort it by friday ..so if i can find some one with a van to pick it up to day i will then send the bits to taff .. at least i no one thing sell this f1 and get a carb .. would love to hire a van and take it to jaws or taff but the funds are very low as the bill come first

Are you saying, Trucker, you soldered all 10 wires together when you did the loom fix?

Sorry Trucker.

Having a senior moment. :wank: What you have done is correct.@tu*

Changing a full loom is not easy. I think you ought to take Taffy up on his offer to check your ECU. I've worked on bike electrics for a hell of a long time but I would defo send my ECU to be properly tested before buying another plus a loom.

Thanks for the understanding in the advice.

I saw you mention buying a loom at around ?350, I suspect a van hire, some diesel and Taffies/Johns input may be substantially cheaper than a new loom so it may seem better value for money to try the van hire first.

As I said, blackbirds rarely get as bad as you seem to have experienced so I am pretty sure the informed 2 gentleman will be able to resolve it and for less than a new loom.

Good luck
