Call me thick,(that's not a request by the way). Where is the Dutch do near? The only problem with living in Gods own County, is the traveling to get any where, as everybody seems to think the country ends at Bristol. I might see if I can go via Plymouth, if not, then all being well & I can swing the time off, maybe hook up with some of you on the way down to the Chunnel.

Any info would be a help, as I'm not too savvy with these here PC things.:bang:

Well, if you really want to go via Plymouth...... You could do Plymouth to Santander, then ride up through Spain, FRance, Belgium, and into Holland then Hoogeveen is way up in the north of Holland...

An easier way would be either...
1..Harwich to Hook of Holland the 2-3 hours ride, or

2... Dove to Calais, and 4 to 5 hours riding up the autobahns to the site, or

3... Channel tunnel then 4 to 5 hours riding up the autobahns...

drenthe_route.jpg

Personally, we live in the midlands, and are going Harwich to Hook of Holland overnight (commodore class cabin with complementary brekkie), then 2 to 3 hours tootling to the Bash site

Hope that is of some help...

Best wishes,

Rolfy

PS... Which one of "Gods own Counties" do you live in ???

Many thanks for the info Rolfy Dave. I have a feeling I will be going via the Chunnel tho, as Santandar is the best part of 24 hrs from Plymouth, or so I've been told. Harwich is still a long trog from here as well. Be stopping over night at Medway by the looks of things & meeting some fellow travelers on the way.

Looking forward to the bash, & putting faces to names.

Anyway, thanks again for the info & welcome.

ride safe have fun

Had a spare hour at the end of the day at work so decided to look up and see if bikes need to have the headlight beam deflector and after lots of searches it would appear that no-one seems to know! not only that but no-one sells them for bikes!

I ended up on the VFR forum on this subject and still no direct answer other than an expat in Italy ses don't bother and another guy ses use insulating tape:dunno:
Worse than that! They went on to say that Ferry operators now point blank refuse to strap down bikes! As if I haven't already got enough shit to carry, now I have to have some ratchety thingy's ROLFY DAVE be warned.
They said that a lot of bike owners on the ferry had a very sleepless night.

Anyone suggest what kind of ratchety thingy would be best and from where?

THEY dont ratchet them down, they give you the ratchet and YOU ratchet it down.

The shipping companys etc, got so many complaints of damaged bikes they now refuse to do the work.

Sea france

on the calais route had a great drive in bike rack,, bloody brill. nice 350 mile ride up to the campsite to,, chunnel is better though.,, much much better.

BTW,, if you do tie it down yourself,, make sure its on its side stand & in gear,,,never put it on the centre stand on a ferry. use your gloves to cusion the rope over seat/bodywork or take rags.

outbound on the 10.20am on Thursday 18th Sept.
returning on the 15.20pm on Monday 22nd sept.

Thats the one Trig. Ok heres the agenda for Thursday 18th.

I'm meeting DaveH and hopefully Tonymac at Duxford (texico garage) at 6.30am Fill tanks..(depart 7.00am). We'll then meet Iceni and WuzUK at around 7.20/7.30am at M25/A12 services. Once over the chunnel we'll fill up and have breakfast.
JohnH, Iceni and myself are taking disposible BBQ's for the first night and last (Sunday night), so anyone joining us should find enough cooking heat. Once we arrive at the camp site (approx 4miles from main highway/a few miles from local town) we'll do a beer and BBQ food run.
Friday we'll have a UK Birdie rideout... from friday pm on it'll be as per Dutch Bash spec.
Anyone going can meet us at either M25/A12 or Duxford/Texico.

My number is 07927 018284.

Chunnel you don't need to tie down, park side on, in gear, side stand and sleep next to bike for 30 minutes.

Thanks for the info, Glad to see I've the details right. My plans are as follows. I'm leaving sunny Devon on Wednesday night, & staying at the Travel lodge at Medway services for a few hours. So will be leaving about 8am, so how about a pit stop at the services? There is an A road which cuts across to the M20, or carry on down the A2.

If anybody fancies a comfy night in a hotel the night before, I have paid for a Family room, as that's all they had. Seperate beds of course :-0) , should be able to smuggle at least one in. Just an idea, might save some body an early start

Other than that, all paid up, doing a check list, tarting the bike up as well. Looking forward to the bash.

Any queeries(hmmm, not sure that was the right terminology :-0) , but you get the idea. Mail me if interested in shareing a room

regards

Trig:p

The A road is the A529, which is J5 M2 just past the services, or J7 M20. Not that kind of f**king friendlyman8um that's for sure. Have a missus & 3 kids thanks. Bloody typical, try to help out, & that's the thanks you get. Anyway, I'm as friendly as the next bloke till I get pissed off. That enough to satisfy you for the time being?
