Currently with Sky...( believe in better)....yeah right:wank:
We are 3 miles, probably less by crow to our local exchange and are getting 0.7 meg download and 0.5 upload.
Told we would get up to 8 meg.
Ideas for a good provider or is that it :dunno:

We've just changed phone and broadband to sky today, getting 1.0 and 0.5 respectively.

Didn't expect anymore cos we weren't getting much better before,. Their router is ten times better though, covers my whole house and no dead spots. My Apple Airport Express is now redundant.

Yeah router is ok, just the speed.

your supplier probably won't make much difference if the line is shite or you are that far from the exchange - unless of course you have a cable provider handy. Have you had the line and your internal connections checked?

Just about everyone I know who has been using Sky BB is dumping it super quick..

The so called unlimited use is so limited most people are getting a surcharge every other month for exceeding their allowed use.. And it gets worse.. One of the couples have been down in Spain for the month in question and the router was not even plugged in at home ! So it seems what Sky are doing is randomly picking an account and claiming the usage is high..
99% of folk would not have a clue what they have used and just accept it..

Be VERY careful with Sky.. It aint big and it sure as fuck aint clever or cheap

Try O2 @tu*

They were doing very good deals a couple of weeks ago ...
My truly unlimited broadband (speeds 4.5-6 meg) and phone calls off peak and line rental is ?15 a month

Think the breakdown was something like ?5.50 unlimited broadband and ?9.50 for line rental and off peak calls

We have BT broad band and have a teenager who has just started playing world of Warcraft online. Last two phone bills have had £15 and £10 quid added for additional broad band usage, which we've never had before and I work from Home!! Looking for a better alternative now, Where I used to live in Manchester we had Virgin TV Phone and Broadband. Excellent package but the wankers in the billing section could never sort out my account, fell out with em and went back to Sky and BT . Shame Virgin don't do this area I'd go straight back. Been reccommended TalkTalk by someone who plays online games day and night for £35 quid a month, does that sound possible? anyone on here online game players?

With Sky here, no complaints, customer service good (and UK based). They say 'up to' certain speeds, which is fair enough, but reality means we get far below their 'best' as we live 3 miles from the exchange. We accept the slowness, but it's reliable and consistent.

Without any doubts what so ever, unless you absolutely pay a fortune to BT, they are the worst IP in the UK.. Second are Sky

A big surprise has turned out to be Plusnet
Had nothing but glowing reports about them.. Ok, they are new kids on the block so have no idea how long they will remain so good, but hey !
They are cheap, UK based and gaining an excellent rep.. Gotta be worth a look at least :)

Hardly new kids. Have been with them for around 10 years I think. Was even with them on dial up when they were force 9. They are now owned by BT but are a pretty professional isp. Good support and loads of extras for your money such as hosting and fax to email.
