Hard luck Howard, I get to find out if I'm going on Friday to see if I've still got a job, it's the waiting that kills you,:bang: mind you, those staying will only have a year or so left before the whole shebang is sold to a third party, then after a year they can reduce your pay to next to nothing, without the fairly decent pay off, offered at the moment!!:dunno:
and like you I'm looking for a different job within the same company, as they are still employing loads of foreign agency staff :)-(

If your job is made redundant you are still losing it and should be compensated. Any alternative job must be the equivalent or better and carry the same terms and conditions or you can claim redundancy. If you accept an alternative position with different terms, you have four weeks in which to decide if its ok or not but this can be extended by agreement. Not a lot of time in which to make a decision. Work for one minute more than 4 weeks and you are deemed to have accepted it and your chance of a payout will have evaporated. Redundancy situations always favour the employer. They can virtually make their own rules up as to whom they want to keep, redeploy or get rid of as all the criteria are down to "interpretation" and if they claim there is a voluntary redundancy situation and you then volunteer, they can refuse to make you redundant and dismiss someone else instead. If they offer you a good deal, think long and hard before you make your decision.:violin:

Thanks, more or less what HR have told me, payout would be for 5 years employment and a little bit extra, under ?10k so not worth taking unless forced to, I should be interviewed for the other position next week and will know the outcome soon after, the job is my old job and someone else's combined, the other person will also have an interview...

Thanks for your thoughts guys, it could always be worse, I have my health and family which is the most important thing..

Yes, would love to @tu* just limited opportunities.

Not a good time to be in the construction industry, so maybe time for a change anyway. :dunno:

Good luck with it Howard.
But I am a little confused????
If you are being made redundant it is because your job is no longer there, so why are you re-applying for it??

(I'm sure someone will be along to explain why it appears Howard is being fuct over)

Get some independent advice if you can - maybe your household insurance policy covers it??

When I was in the same position I was lucky in the my neighbour was an employment solicitor and she pointed out loads of errors in the process that meant that I wasn't walking for what they wanted - in the end I was offered a new position with a reasonable retainer to stay on.

Your lot can't be as inept as mine but without advice I would have been none the wiser

Its a con called re-engineering. It means they can restructure (reduce / cheapen) the workforce and sidestep legislation. The original job is redundant but they don't need to change it much to demonstrate the original job no longer exists.

There are 2 positions being made redundant, the 2 positions are not the same type of role, but are similar, these 2 positions are being made into 1 position.
To make matters even more complicated they have made another new role as well, so we have 2 job roles being made redundant & 2 new job roles being created......the problem is that 1 of these positions is not really suitable for either of us, but we have been old we can apply for either! I have applied for the position that is in fact my role and the other guys role amalgamated into one, the other guy is unsure at the moment on what to do as he has been with the company a long time...so his redundancy package maybe twice as much as what I have been offered?, he is also only a few years away from retirement......I should be having an interview later this week, with a decision shortly afterwards.

PS. As from 2nd Feb they only need to pay you £450 max per week for each year of service!

UPDATE

The other guy has chosen redundancy.

On Tuesday afternoon I received an email asking me to attend an interview today at 10.00am, I was also given a format for the interview which involved writing 4 presentations. (2 Business Plans & 2 examples of a strategy I have implemented)
I was interviewed by The Sales Director and another Manager, the interview lasted three and a half hours, I was first asked to go through my presentations, being asked questions all the time, then a further discussion, then I was asked the questions that would be scored, At the end of the interview I asked if they thought I would be suitable and was told that they have got concerns about me being able to do the job, when questioned further they said I am capable but they are not sure if I am capable of growing the business, but it is now up to HR to view the score cards and decide.

As far as I can see I am suitable for the position, half of it is my old job, the other half is something that is not that much different, just different products and customers....think I am being screwed over!

I think you are to! A 3 hour interview, more like an interrogation! Did they keep going in the hope to trip you up.
