i seen that one too bert but i thought i would buy the proffessional stuff cos of the lifetime guarantee, you really would be hard pushed to justify the price difference between this stuff and snapon or teng, it is as derek said (dogs danglys) the ratchets or socket drives have that neat lock system that holds the socket firm theres a small button on the rear of the ratchet to release the socket (fookin handy) the spanners are brill too they just feel quality meena!, there is a full chest of snapon in the garage and when we A/B tested them you cant tell the diff:bow:

Halfords Gear is Good

I've got the large set of Halfords Professional sockets/spanners. It includes ratchet spanners, ordinary spanners full sets of various sockets, varioius allen key sockets etc.

Good solid stuff and as Marcella says the prof. stuff has a lifetime warranty.

Had it for a while now, didn't get a toolbox at the same time as the ones I liked with the ball bearing roller drawers were a bit too pricy. It did come in it's own solid plastic box.

Also have the medium sized Halfords torque wrench - again easy to use and good quality. I've noticed that ride mag have given both the socket set and the torque wrench good ratings.

I can remember when Halfords tools were pretty cheap and nasty but they've come a long way since then.

the last time

I looked at tools in Halfords (some years ago admittedly) they might as well have been forged in marzipan....crap...:t

Must go back and have a good butchers....I use gedore spanners and a teng tools socket set....blimming great kit. The ring end (cue interest from fudgey) has a uniform thickness of material around it, spot on conncentric and the open end simply doesn't splay, no matter how much brute force you put on them....top kit...

The ones I currently use are King Dicks ( don't tell him I'm using his spanners) I got them in an auction, never heard of them but a mate reckons they are on a par with snap on. :dunno:

A quick wipe with a lightly oiled cloth after use will always keep your tool shiny

You must clean your tools after use.
Otherwise if you work on more than one vehicle they'll catch things off each other...
One car with a cough is quite enough...

Sorry to disillusion you fella's, but there is no kit on a par with Snap on! There are a few now approaching their standard, but none on a par - that's why everything else is cheaper!!

If all the other stuff was as good as Snap on, at the relative price it sells for, Snap on wouldn't exist any more. Think about it.

Never owned 'em meself so couldn't really say.... but then again....my brother was a car mechanic for many years and yes he did say snap-on kit was good. But.... if it's your job the tools are tax deductable plus snap-on make it easy by touring the garages etc. and mechanics are by nature lazy beggars so it saves 'em having to go find the tools.
While snap-on does have a good trade reputation there's plenty of kit just as good these days (if not better) and when considering "value for money" I'd say snap-on's out of the picture unless your a pro.

I think you'll find there isn't Gerry!! (oh alright then maybe Bluepoint, which, as Jaws says, is the same anyway!!). If you are a consistant and ongoing user then nothing really fits as well and stays on size as well as Snap on, to highlight but just two points.

I would agree though that most of us don't really need the excellence of Snap on.
