Yeah right, and beaten by a yammy moped according to MCN's Top 50 greatest bike poll. They gave us 41-50 this week, obviously the few Bird owners that responded to this poll were'nt aware that it's a foregone conclusion that the Superblackbird is one of, if not the greatest bikes of all time. I think what MCN means to tell us is that its a poll for the bike with the greatest number of anorak/muppet owners that like to reply to bloody silly bike polls. Well that should give us a Harley on the top spot eh??
BOLLOX
The BB is NOT one of the greatest bikes of all time... its good but I would only put it on a par with the Fireplace, Hayabusa and R1 in the greatest bike league. It didnt break new ground on its inception.
To me the greatest are those like the BSA Gold Star, the Featherbed Norton, the Vincent HRD, and to me the greatest bike, in my memory, was the Honda 750/4... it changed, not only the goal posts but the game overnight.
The FS1E was instrumental in introducing many young lad to the joy of two wheels... and the Yamaha 350LC was fookin brilliant. As far as sales go the Honda step through's are going to be remembered for a long time.
As far as marketing goes of course Harley are up there with the best and before anyone fires off at me I cant stand the feckers.. but you have to admire the company for dragging a 40's bike into the 21st century.
