Biker/Motorcyclist?

Don't understand the distinction - never did. Perhaps someone could explain. I have ridden bikes since I was 17 - I'm now 48. Got into sidecars when the kids were born so that they could take part in what I wanted to do. Still have a sidecar ( Pan Euro/ Merlin F2 - out on it most Sundays with my boy. I only ride the solo ( CBR1000) when I can. Doesn't worry me one bit if I don't see the bike at all in the week.
Our biggest threat to our continuation of our right to ride comes from within our own ranks - some of the riding displayed by some riders borders on suicidal - when heading for the BMF Rally on Sunday I was overtaken by one twat on an R1 whilst going around a left hander - this twat was in the right hand lane on the other side of a solid white line - was he a biker or a motorcyclist? No, he was a wa*ker! If we keep on giving the authorities any more ammunition, they will use it. End of story!

Head in the Clouds
I ride my bike cos I like it. I did a DAS course 4 years ago and only stopped riding when I was 7 months pregnant and really couldn`t get my leathers on, having said that I was pillioning on HB Bird right up till the day before the rugrat was born. (It must have been quite a sight cos his bird has full luggage and not easy to get on at the best of times, let alone when you can`t really bend in the middle!!)
I sold my CB 500 to get a CBR600 but the chap that was rebuilding it took so long to get it ready that other expenses got in the way and I ended up being without a bike for a year. HB said I could ride his Blackie but quite frankly it scares me and I `d never forgive myself if I did anything to it cos he loves it to bits. I never stopped looking through the ads to see if there was anything there for me. I finally found 1 I could afford to buy and insure (without remorgaging the house) in January and drove down to Christchurch to buy it. I don`t get out on it as much as I`d like but thats because I`m a full time mum and Alex is too little to reach the footpegs. As soon as he`s able to reach I`ll be shopping for a dinky set of leathers and a helmet. Where does this put me then??

I'm surprised that anyone is interested in the distinction.
:yo:

It's a common subject on bike forums - But hey,If no one bothered interacting, forums would be very dull.
It's good to see folks answer,be it agreeable or not and to get an idea of where they're coming from,or where they think they're coming from.

If anyone else had started this thread-I'd just say "Fuck it....Boring" but as wolfie brought it up,I thought i'd pay attention cos the geezer can be very ponient at times (Except when he's on the guiness & whisky-cos then he's just a full on laugh and a pleasure to get shitfaced with)

Funny as this may sound, i'm not remotely interested in bikes as such.
I own and ride the BB coz i think its great and unlike yourself its not in my blood. If i were to part with the BB i'd miss riding it but i would'nt go out and buy an old Yamaha or Suzuki just to keep me riding.
For me to enjoy it then the bike has to appeal to me hence thats why i've joined BIRD and not the MANCHESTER 500 club.....
I drive my car more than i ride the bike due to practicality, i drive a dark green estate car daily and the bike is sheer pleasure, a hobby but a hobby which i dedicate a lot of time to.
I chose to join BIRD for the social side and to meet like minded people who i can ride out with and have a laugh, i have no time for greasy patch wearing boys in mens bodies who ride rat bikes (each to their own)
I'm a mixture of tourer, scratcher, polisher, rider come rain or shine i'll go out but i'll never call myself a motorcycle fanatic.
I like what i like and will not be categorised.
Anyway, shut ya face and count ya coppers (ha ha ) i'll let ya buy me a shandy on Friday.

Bert threw his on the floor cause you refused him entry and he was sulking.

I ride my bike because I enjoy it

I heard you could not ride??? :dunno: :dunno:

I would ride a Honda PC50 if that is all i had, infact every now and then i ride my raleigh rm5(1964 moped)

Too all those who said that they dont do labels etc. etc. you may not but the gov. and media do and we are all death wish/speeding/stunt riders with no concern for anybody else etc etc etc and some of you have agreed with that (iMHO) and that is what fecks me off.

I have have no death wish, i can not do stunts(have tried just can not do them) yes i speed. If you complain, stand up to the media/gov. and tell them they are wrong and enough is enough, you are not supporting those who have a death wish etc. but are just standing up for yourselves.

Ben,
the geezer can be very ponient at times
i can not be mate, cause i have got 2 kids.

a pleasure to get shitfaced with
awww shucks you say the nicest things

Lack of hormones

as in Gay twats, there is something missing in yer if you dont fancy women (blokes for you wenches and FB) and if you dont like Bikes you must have something missing in you because from boys we all lust after big bikes. But wheather you own a bike is how far that internal lust goes. Every normal bloke likes/loves bikes.
Family and cost comitments during our lives prevent most from havin bikes all the time. To those that have a family and a bike only IMHO have very strong Bikin hormones, good luck to yer. Now I can afford a cage and run a bike Lifes great, that bikin hormone is getin scratched.
The more people that turn to bikin in my opinion the better, cos when they get back in their cages they are more aware of bikes and givin yer more room.
Respect to anyone who rides two wheels however short that is.

I also lust after unloading large quantities for ammo down large fully automatic weopons but I find it hard to scratch that hormone now adays :neenaw:
Wolfie you must start a peoples right to scratch my itchy hormone :}

I am actually quite shocked (and quite hurt) about what Ben said about people with families getting rid of their bikes.

Ben, all I can say is - you are a very lucky young man, if you have not had to make the choice between feeding your children/keeping a roof over their heads, versus keeping a bike. Or maybe the choice between a family holiday vs a bike.

And I really do hope that you are never in a position where you need to make that choice - but please don't criticise those that do chose to spend what little money they have, on their families instead of their bike!

Speaking personally Jen......they have been the times I've run rat bikes or old nails that have cost nothing to run. Beg or borrow what parts you need to keep it running.....do all your own work on it.....if you had to buy bits then shop at autojumbles.....cosmetic repairs came from a matt black spray can.

Where there's a will.........

just having a read through the thread, and it seems to me there are two separate issues here,
[1] the prats that give ALL motorcycle USERS a bad name,!!!
[2] the name motorcycle USERS choose to call themselves,!!!

me I enjoy my time on my bikes, I also own and drive a car, I have had a large family, I now have a smaller one,
I find it a little difficult getting 24 liters of milk, 6 loaves of bread and all the rest of the weekly shopping on the bike along with "she who must be obeyed"and two kids, I ride to work most days on either Tina's 125 or the bird, when its pissing it down or I have some shopping to do I use the car,
I did my bit as a courier, in all weathers,
"any idiot can get piss wet through and frozen by choice"
Ive been to the bulldog twice, albeit some years ago, first occasion I was so blathered I cant remember it, :xm the second time it chucked it down, and EVERYONE moaned like old women, since then Ive not been in a position to go again as my priority's dictates my family's come first,
am I a biker,? am I a motorcyclist,?? who gives a shit,??? :dunno:
my ol dear stopped me riding to school when I was 14 years old, on an old francis Barnett, with half a seat no tax or owt, she bought me my first "proper" car at 17 to try and keep me off bikes,
she was not impressed to have me turn up years later on a succession of different bikes and as a courier :}

Jenny,
I never once stated that I'd neglect my family but I did say that if I couldn't afford the blackie or another big machine-I'd ride anything. If I could only afford to get a 200 quid rust bucket of a 250,then I would.
My missus wouldn't expect me to give up riding-Even went to mi own wedding on mi Streetfighter with best man as pillion.
You can stay on 2 wheels with a very low budget-believe me,I ain't exactly the flushest of geezers when it comes to the folding stuff.

They might do labels but I do votes as do the rest of the fed up brigade, how
bout this for a message for the dickheads who "run" the country YOUR SACKED its easy just tick the appropriate squares on your ballot card, Blair and his cronies hold on power is rather fragile at the moiment and Im sure there is enough pissed off people in this country to ram that message home Whats that you say? their successors are no good well no problem sack them too and keep sacking them untill the message gets across "You are our employees do what we employ you to do"

Isn't it great that we're all very different people and have such different backgrounds and ideas.
I have no wish to spend any amount of money on summat like a GSXR 600, even if it was the bargain of the century, i'd rather drive my cage..
Ya see, some things just don't float my boat and if i cannot afford to keep my BB or some other grizzly machine then i'll not have a bike....the bike is just an adrenalin rush, a pleasure and NOT a must have for me.
I'll NEVER knock anyone for being a BIKER or whatever but its not my choice.
I am a member of the BMF and i will stand up for my rights but i won't be rid of my car to become a martyr for the cause.
I would love to own a big fat hog with open pipes, big tank, straight bars and ghosted flame paint but it won't make me a HARLEY fan or a Hells Angel,, can you see where i'm coming from? :yo:
