There is no doubt that an efficient system makes sense in many ways providing the install cost is appropriate to the return.
But everyone should understand before doing it that having panels installed on a long term contract might put buyers off if you decide to sell the house. Whether this is justified, fear of the unknown or just that they are usually pig ugly (the panels that is, not the buyers - although they are usually pig ugly too) is irrelevant.

As an aside, a friend has recently bought a new build - the solar panels are built into the roof slates and unless they are pointed out you would never know they are there. Clever stuff.
