When I had a wisdom tooth taken out I asked the dentist if I could take it home for the tooth fairy.

She said there wasn't one
I was devastated

how many kids have you Rob??
I never lied to any of my kids about Santa, the tooth fairy, or whatever. I told them right from the start that Santa didn't exist, that the other kids parents were lying to them, that lying is wrong, and those kids will hate them for it later. I also taught them proper English from the outset - it was a train and not a bleedin' choo-choo, a dog and not a bow-wow. Why do people do that??

There was also a strict policy on pocket money and when it was gone it was gone - they then went without 'til the following month. Result is that they have grown up to be appreciative, honest, smart, sharp young adults who respect people that don't lie and have an uncanny ability to identify those that do from the outset.

They are better equipped to handle the devious, deceitful and dishonest world that lays ahead and they are grateful to me for their straight and balanced upbringing.

I am confident they will do well and they have vowed never to over-parent their own children.

Rob I agree with most of what you say, however our kids believed in Santa, eventually they both figured out that it was us buying the presents.
I agree 100% with the education aspect [as I have previously posted] I think the standard of teaching has dropped to an unacceptable level, thank God my kids are grown up.

Now, Gotta go feed the Gee-Gee's
