Asylum Seeking

Not really intending this to be contentious as such but I just noticed this from the BBC:

The nationalities most commonly applying for asylum were people from Iran, Eritrea, Afghanistan, China and Somalia.

Now if you lived in any of these countries and wanted somewhere safe to go why would you come all this way. Wouldn't you look around for somewhere more in line with your language and cultural experiences?

I've often heard folks in the UK bemoaning how things are and that they'd like to leave the country. But most of those talk about going to North America, Europe or Australia/New Zealand...... i.e. places where the language/culture are not too far from what is familiar. :dunno:

A big factor in this issue D & D is organised crime.

Criminals in this country, Europe and the far east, indeed everywhere, are only too willing to fleece those who, for whatever reason, want to flee their own country.

It is not the asylum seeker that is the problem as such, it is the criminal gangs that prey on the naive and trade on people hopes.
Once here, again it is the criminals that perpetuate this sorry afair.

Even the USA cannot keep illegals out and they have 2 massive oceans either side of them. Policing the Mexican border is a full time job and with all the US's resources they cannot control the immigrants.

Nothing to do with the Tenancy Agreements the governments forces the local councils to sign then ??
This gives asylum seekers a fully furnished house, free health and education, mobile phones and last but not least, free money.

Can't blame the buggers for wanting to come here can you ?

agree but the local council is getting paid by gov to take them, therefore should not the local council spend their money on local issues like health, education, etc.

Yeah I know, I mean what about the English, I mean didn't they colonise most of the world before all this anyway? (commonwealth anyone?)

The cheek of having to apply to get in to a country of your choice, when in the olden days you could just invade, conquer the country, then give it back when there's a revolt, but take all the countries gold, treasure with you thereby creating third world countries in the first place, and the original problem.

All political problems today, can be traced back to what the europeans did in the first place. :rant: d04l1ng b0x1 :bang:

Yep, so many of them seem to pass through other suitable countries to get to the promised land.

They don't even try to hide once they get here. Last lot found near where i work were dropped off by the lorry driver at a roundabout and simply sat on their cases waiting for the police to come and get them, give them money, accommodation, access to easier women,s04pb0x6 etc,etc,etc.

We should send them asylum seekers back home, taking our jobs and tax money.

If that's was you think, then words fail me........all is lost, welcome to britain the Nazi's of the modern world. Let's bomb every other country and give rise to more global terror.

I'll only give 1 retort to this. Europeans/ the West didn't have any concept of bathing/washing in any respect till the crusades invaded Turkey, and saw quite literally, a Turkish bath. Just one example of 1,000,000's.

Read a history book and lessen that ignorance. LOL!

However, as this is a motorbike forum, I've said my piece on this subject and will say no more, no matter how ignorant and goading the replies!!! LOL.

i have been presented with a different view this week of asylum and seekers.
I have been on a gov funded course in derby due to my redundancy, and have been rubbing shoulders with asylum seekers and local "jobless" of English origin.
My surprise was..not only were the two Iraqi guys very polite, courteous and sociable to-wards anyone that spoke to them they also wanted to learn and made every effort to speak and write in English.
HOWEVER..the 3 local out of work dole dossers were ignorant, couldn't write a full sentence and most of all didn`t see the course as help in to the world of commerce and employment, but were only attending as their dole money / benefits were going to be stopped if they didn`t attend.
The instructors hated them because they wouldn't do anything whilst they were there and answered when challenged i don`t care, i`m only here to save my benefit!
Is it any wonder that people that are willing to work and return something to the economy and system find the so called "pinched jobs"
well..i know which of todays candidates i would have picked to work for me if i were in the position of offering employment.......

Fair comment Chunks - it takes allsorts to make a mixed bag. However, go down to Dover and Folkestone (as a couple of examples) if you wanna see the other side of the coin....

I'm currently working in a shipyard in Azerbaijan. In the shipyard their are people of ALL races and creeds working together about 40% of the workforce are not nationals and out of them most are working here to take money back to their own countries wherever that maybe, me included.

For working here I help generate a tidy sum for the uk Gov. I've been on the dole for many years in the past and have met many UK nationals with absolutely no intention of ever working through the books or giving anything back to society. maybe these are the ones we should be exporting.

I'm not for a free for all to come to the UK and think there shouldn't be instant benefits for any foriegners until they've paid in to the system, Cause I wouldn't expect it anywhere else.

However there are people who want to come to the country to work and pay tax and fair enough they can pay for our pensions when were older.

As for those trying to take the piss out of the system they can piss right off.

I've been on the dole since i left school in 1985..............i've searched for work in my chosen field but there just isn't the call for a 'Lunar Entomologist' up in Manchester.

My view is that if they are here to work and support themselves then good luck!
If they are here to sponge and attempt to change my views and values then BYE BYE..
I'm tollerant of all creeds, its the wasters, criminals and lazy scum who get my back up.

Unfortunately the tabloid press love to publish extremes and the blinkered, deaf, brain dead racists in this country love to perpetuate the myth that all asylum seekers or indeed anyone who is not white or Christian are worthless criminal wasters.
Of course some are and quite rightly should face the consequences of the law.
