My next door neighbour is a re-enactments participant for American civil war events and owns a 3 band 1853 pattern Enfield, this 2 banded Enfield featured above was essentially a cut down version favoured by scouts etc.
As an aside we were talking over the hedge one day and I asked him if they got to fire them much and he informed me that at the time there had been a bit of a fracas caused by some tit leaving the ram rod in the barrel and the feckin thing hurtling towards the “enemy” like a javelin, luckily no one was hurt but the practise was on hold for now untill they had got better practices in place.
