The fact remains that the government HAS the power to ban smoking - but doesn't. The revenue obtained from the sale of tobacco outweighs the cost to the NHS by 3 to 1. Without this revenue, everybody's taxes would need to rise by between 1% and 2% to make up the shortfall
They would find something else to tax
(getting the message yet?)
Yes loud & clear, you are trying to justify why you continue with an anti social habit
So rather than patronise us smokers about the damage we're doing to people around us, consider this - most smokers ARE considerate about where we choose to indulge (I for one would not smoke in a non-smokers' company), if only the same could be said about many parents today, who choose to ignore the fact that their brats are running riot.
I'm not "anti-kids", as I have 2 of my own - I just wish that parents would take some responsibility in their childrens' behaviour.
How can you speak for most smokers?...Parents should take responsibility for their children, however this has nothing to do with smoking other than the probability that the unruly child will be smoking long before his/her 16th birthday
And while I'm on the subject, why do parents and their kids need their own parking spaces? Why do some parents need to push ridiculously wide push-chairs around supermarkets, when the child can obviously walk unaided? Why are we still rewarding parents with Child Allowances? Why do schools "punish" kids by suspending them from school for several days? Why do we (as a society) tolerate the delinquency, bad language, vandalism and violence, that todays youth seem to excell in ?
Because we've all gone soft.
I agree I will park in a parent/child space if one is available (but not disabled). there is no need for wide pushchairs as if someone has twins then they can get a tandem pushchair, I was grateful for the child allowance when my kids were younger as my wife was at home looking after them and we only had my wage coming in. Kids punished by being sent home I think is more of a message to the parents, ie you look after them for a few days and try to control them, if you witness delinquency, or bad language challenge it, tell the youth(s) that you find their behaviour unacceptable sometimes the kids will actually apologise
PS. I still think chewing gum is worse than fag ends.
Yet again this is another issue and however disgusting and anti social we find it, it does not excuse smoking.
