Clueless in most things
I saw a few weeks ago on a sunday morning on the bbc a programme much about the thing you mention dave bee.
Of note when ever the iman from the muslim council of Britian was asked a question, his context was that unless you totally agree with him then you are racist. During that discussion a black woman, a vicar I think? said you need to be corrected on two points.
Firstly as muslims are not a race they are a belief then racism can not and will not ever apply, secondly a religion that does not allow dissent is a dictatorship and not a faith and as such you cannot speak for or claim to represent every muslim in Great Britian.
The iman went quite red I suspect at having intelligence quash his arguments and even more so for a backward thinking individual, by a woman. Lets also be honest here coloured people can also be racist, it is generally known Asians as in Pakinstanis/Indians generally are not fans of africans and visa versa. All countries have some level of discrimination against others no matter what the colour.
The Streatham refusal of the mosque to allow a woman shows to me that despite the projection of a modern faith it still has it's roots and most of its practices still stuck in the dark ages. That is fine in a backward thinking country but when you move into a forward thinking country as much of the western world is then you simply cannot enjoy the freedoms of the west whilst living in the same country you want to return back to the dark ages.
Religion has never been a problem, how men and it is mostly men, use it for personal profit, gain and status has always been the problem.
It would be like me opening a pork butchers in isreal...some things are simply not a good fit and in islams case there is a place for it but not in the west as it is in direct contradiction. We have done the "religion is the law" in our history, been there done that and centuries later realised it should be a faith of the individual and not the law of the country and until islam realises that, then we will still have this uneasy rest between us. We in the west do not want to be ruled by religion, any religion.
