If a ban is imposed, I doubt Davey will take it as intended, but be absolutely convinced he has become the Bird martyr ..

It is not such a cut and dried (I would've use the phrase 'black and white' , but.....
........) issue that people first think. It may have far reaching consequences.:bang:I myself have not yet voted. There has been very good reasoning from those whom have chosen to explain their choice.
It seems such a shame that the depth of discussion that Davey would have liked to provoke with his comments and views, is directed at Davey's future membership of this forum.
I truly believe it is not down to the subjects Davey chooses, but rather his antagonistic manner of presenting those subjects.

This forum is in the public domain and is open to anyone to join. There is no vetting of individuals, no obligatory subscription and no contract. As such it has to be expected, and accepted, that there will be words written that some may find offensive, insulting or otherwise not to their taste or liking. In the main the forum is frequented by adults but that does not mean that minors cannot or do not see what is written However, it can be argued that on the balance of probabilities that the viewing of the content by minors is extremely rare on the basis that the vast majority of forum menbers are over the age of forty and equally we don't have any active participants who have openly declared that they are a minor and so it a pretty safe bet that what goes on here remains within an adult environment.
As adults, amongst a host of things, we have the ability to speak and write freely and to choose who we speak to and how we conduct ourselves. When words are written we have the right to agree or disagree with them as much as we have the ability to engage with the author or ignore. How we engage in debate, how we articulate our thoughts is down to the individuals ability to communicate in a way that others understand but we all know at times that text fails to show true emotion or feelings and is often misinterpreted. It is at such times that it very easy to dismiss the writing as being inflammatory, antagonistic or otherwise yet had the same been said face to face it is probable that a different viewpoint would be formed. The whole science of verbal communication is complex enough but change that to the written word and it's a whole new ball game.
I read just about all if what is written on here and see some stuff that makes me cringe, stuff that raises an eyebrow and stuff that just makes me laugh. I don't see the words, in the overall context, of DB are any different to those of anyone else and as such cannot see that banning him serves any purpose; nobody is forced to read what he writes and the option to ignore is alway available and it often the way that deals nicely with such an issue.

In the few months I have been here I have seen things posted by various members that I disagree with but all of those people have at other times posted useful helpful information or offered help to other members myself included .... well all apart from one that is :whi5tl:

I was hoping that a vote thread wouldn't come to be. It's sad that it has.

I agree he has a right to an opinion however wrong it may be but when he starts threads with the deliberate intention on being antagonistic & trolls members posts for chances to cause arguments I think enough is enough
I do know that on a site that I moderate he would have been gone long ago & nobody would have even blinked, that site has even less rules than here by the way

I think if you take anything from all this. it's that the site owner felt we were responsible enough to deal with this issue that has been going on for far too long in our own way and that 74 people felt the forum and this issue was important enough to declare their opinion by voting.

Once again your message is diluted by the way you have delivered it. You really don't get it do you?
For what it's worth I voted 'no ban' simply because A) all you have done (largely) is pee people off with your intransigent approach, b) I think you may welcome a ban as ammunition for your caued c) I am genuinely interested to see if you can change your approach to one that encourages reasoned debate, this on the basis that I suspect under the at best clumsy way you communicate you probably have something worth listening to even if some disagree and d) it is not a clear cut issue - look at Gary 3011161 final posts for what constitutes a a banning offence in my mind - but I think he just crawled back under his stone of his own accord without being red carded.
