Shewie, slap a complete front end from a kwak ZX12r -A on it.
Pretty easy fit ( almost a straight swap in fact )

As you are a very quick rider you will have already dumped the linked brakes so the job could not be easier @tu*

Actually, I haven't. I'm the oddball who bucks the trend and doesn't hate them. I can see where this is heading though...lots of judgements and comments about skill sets and corner entry vs LBS and blah blah. Lol.
Luckily for me though, the only one I feel the need to prove my skill level to is me. ;)

Thanks for the replies guys.
I went the Jaws fork upgrade kit and rebuilt rear shock route. All fitted and set up now. I didn't realise how bad the bike had become until I rode it yesterday. I'm well happy with the ride now. @tu*

The standard shock without a build with updated uprated internals is pretty much well past its best at 27k

Actually not at all..
I usually keep mine linked too but as I wanted the upside downy's and the bike is very track focused it was not a hard choice to ditch them :-0)

Now I'm confused ... yeah I know that's nothing new :-0)

You all seem to be saying when the stock shock is knackered is goes soft & soggy ...yes?

Mine hasn't its rock hard even though the rebound is backed off & everything is moving freely :dunno: I had thought the preload rings were wound right down but it seems not..... maybe I just need to eat more pies :whi5tl:

Well my standard type shock has done 78000 assuming it's never been changed - certainly not in the 23000 I've owned it.

I weigh 18 stone and the bike handles ok to me.

Maybe I just don't know what good handling is? But I'm certainly not considered to be slow in the windy roads.

Maybe my shock has been through the Jaws upgrade in the past. Is there any way to tell externally?

Nope.. and even if it had been it would by now be getting close to the edge..
the thing is, they get worse slowly. so no one really notices as things degrade and we all tend to ride round issues.. But no matter what, that shock will be compromised or close to it

Slim, not right.. the springs rarely loose stiffness..
In fact that is exactly the problem.. Stiff spring poor damping

If you think your unit is too hard I am willing to bet big bucks it is pretty much shot. Either that or some plonker has wound the rebound damping back off

Our bums are not very clever in general.. What we THINK is a hard spring is almost always caused by the rebound damping starting to fail.. It is on the rebound it feels harsh.. But we cannot distinguish what is on the down stroke and what is up stroke..
So it rebounds out, slaps the stop and then compresses again.. When it hits the stop is when it feels harsh.. But like I say, for mere mortals it is pretty much impossible to suss it out

So, if a standard shock is knackered at less than 30K miles, what life might I expect out of an expensive Ohlins or Wilbers shock?

How long is a piece of string ..

Too many variables to predict but lets say there are a lot of folk ( including me ) who spend a whole lot of time servicing them )

I think the new R1 has linked breaks.

Will be all the rage soon!

Mine is still well damped on the rebound & the adjuster still makes a difference it just simply wont compress much with my skinny arse on it, sag is virtually 0, a common problem for us normal sized people & something I have had to deal with on numerous bikes

Damping & spring preload seems fine with the mrs on the back effectively doubling the weight carried so I'm now wondering if the PO who was a big bloke with a big mrs changed or rebuilt the shock for their bulk :dunno:
