Last July I had a heart attack that left me with heart failure - the left ventricle is damaged and only working at about 25%. Returning home from hospital, the walk from the car to the house was sufficient to leave me out of breathe.
I did the cardiac rehab offered and then went on to regular visits to the gym and have a couple of routes that I walk on the local country lanes.
On the treadmill I started to do a short bit of running, and initially one minute at a very slow pace left me knackered, but I persisted.
Today I hit a new personal record, 1.43km at a reasonable pace, done in 9 minutes.
A 5km charity run is my goal!

Top man! You don’t need luck so I won’t wish you any; you haven’t made it this far on luck. Keep up the good work and be sure to post a link to your Just Giving page on here when you do your run.

My note say 'Moderate to severely impaired left ventricular function with moderate mitral regurgitation. Marked hypokinesia of the lateral posterior wall'
They just call it heart failure, in that it doesn't work as well as it used to do.

I wonder how many forms of heart failure there are then? (asisde from the heart failure where it actually stops working hence the failure as ina heart attack )

I had trouble remembering what my condition was called until I got my medi-alert bracelet with the name of the condition engraved on it

I think 'heart failure' is the catch-all term for when you heart, for any reason, is not performing up to manufacturers spec.
It is a horrible phrase that is landed om you at a time when you are venerable.
Failure of other organs generally means that its knackered and a transplant is required.
Though it took me almost a year, I've come to terms with it and get on with life.

I think you you are right, it is a generic term.

I know where you are coming from, although strangely enough when I was told it was my heart that was shagged rather than a lung issue (which I initially thought it might be after 30 + years as a smoker) I was actually quite relieved.

3 + years on now, and the only thing that reminds me that I have an issue is my daily dose of medication, the bruising that develops easily and going dizzy if I stand up too quickly (although apparently my blood pressure is good)

However, the local Dr still keeps pushing me to have the defribulator fitted....... Even though the cardiac clinic have told me that there is no need at the moment and I have to be in a position to come to terms with the idea.

Apart from which I can't afford a month off work being unable to drive post op
