the latest pta (prevention etc.......not parent teachers' assoc!) makes it a crime under the act to (among many other things):
1. interfear with an electronic system.......
2. gather material which may be used for terrorist purposes.....
All very laudable things I'm sure......... so exactly what is number 1...... well it's anything you want it to be........ distributing a virus....... using a radar detector..... messing up the automatic doors at your local supermarket.....
electronic system is not defined in the act...... so it can be interpreted as whatever some bright investigator/prosecutor wants to try........
2. so as for number 2....... putting together bomb making kits, gatering intelligence which would allow terrorist campaings to take place.......
but same as the first it's not defined...... so farmer giles manure collecton could be a threat..... looking at a web page which has this info on it....???
This is what the debate about "sound lawmaking" is about..... hasty and ill thought out legislation leaves so much open to interpretation that it can later be turned to any purpose that some bright spark decides...... and it will all be legal.
Good and carfefully thought out laws make sure it's clear what the purpose and scope of a law is............
ID cards? The best question is what re they for...... the ligislation being debated deals only with the mechanism for their introduction...... the purpose is not part of the act...... the only guide anyone has to "purpose" are various govt. statements - which have frequently been changed.
I would sum these up as:
It would help prevent terrorism... original purpose now agreed by the govt. would not have stopped the recent events as the scrotes would have had perfectly valid ID's.........
it would make interraction with govt depts easier..... how exactly??? Ah... you'll need one to register a car/bike, get road tax, claim benefits, ask govt for info etc etc........ get heatlh treatment, e buried????
Exactly how would the lack of an ID card have stopped the bad guys... maybe if..... you needed one to buy a rail ticket, hire a car, go on a bus, buy food, buy clothes....be stopped frequently at random and required to produce it, enter a town/city, move from region to region ....?????????
Basically the govt. have stated a number of specific reasons which have all been withdrawn after debate/discussion.
The remaining reason is ............... ?????????????
As for changing/stopping this process........ e-mail/write/pester you're local MP.......
Oh and if you're interested there's a web site ('ll find the link later) which lets you see how you're MP has voted and what speeches they've made in the commons ...... makes interesting reading....
Sunday rant over..... maybe.........s04pb0x6 s04pb0x6
