Now, what did I come in here for....
I do like the contrast of the silver against the black frame.

Erm...... so the conclusion is, that this is not a 2005 model?
Not necessarily…@jaws may be able to shed some light on frame/wheel colours.

My recollection is that black frame and wheels were Carb then early FIs until they ran out When they moved to silver or a sort of bronzey colour? My 03 was silver frame and wheels.

Either way the sticker in the frame under the seat will definitely tell you what it is…it may be an earlier bike that wasn’t registered until 2005…which is nothing to worry about as they never sold in huge numbers.

Is it digital or analogue dash? Can’t quite see from the photos.

Some 2005 models for sale UK.
Black or Gold wheels. Different colour decals. 1st one is yours found on Gumtree, but the ad has now gone.
Hi ogr, thanks for that. I saw this bike too with those terrible cans. The first ad you saw was the one I'm going for. So I'm satisfied that the black frame and black wheels are of the 2005 model and it seems legit.

However Jaws pointed out that the exhaust is from a carb version, and honestly, I'm inclined to agree. But honestly, I think it looks good and they are in good order.....it should be ok, or do you guys smell a rat?

Surely it's no Frankenstein! I may have to ask a few more questions to the seller. Appreciated.

Nope, but seeing who owned it previously...
The carb cans are doable, but the collector box & header would have to be changed too as the firing order is different.
Or... It's got a pre 99 carb engine hiding somewhere under the cloak.

its not anyone’s intention to make you panic:eek:…there is a lot of expertise on here and it would be remiss not to observe anything that looks different to what might be reasonably expected. As I said before the frame sticker will tell you a lot…..I wouldn't be overly surprised if it sat in the showroom for a year or two before being registered…from memory sales were less than around 10,000 in the eleven years on sale in the uk and they had tailed off quite significantly by 2005. But that really wouldn’t matter…it’s all about the condition of the bike, 40,000 is just about run in for a Bird (my last two had something like 170k between them and both are still going strong Last I heard).

Otherwise normal observations as to whether it has been down the road big time (reality says that in seventeen years and 40,000 miles it may have been in its side and had cosmetic damage) apply!

Welcome to the nuthouse.

At least where you are at the moment you're relatively safe from most of the reprobates on here...... I did say most

The bike looks fine to me from the photos.
The brake reservoir colour looks correct for a 2005, they went from what had been the normal black to silver.
As do the silver colour slightly raised fairing logos.

Given its had a few sensible mods I don't think you need worry.

The carb cans are a straight slide onto the EFI model, it means no Cats and I think slightly more raspy noise.
I have 2003 EFI and I have a spare set of carb cans for it.

I also have the fake carbon surround on the instruments.
In my case it was because the very light tint ffabri double bubble caused the sun to slightly melt the original. The carbon fibre effect unit is very solid and just sticks on over the original.

Firstly, I do appreciate what you all say. Of course being here on a CBR forum, I do want to tap into the combined knowledge, so if there was anything dubious about what you see, I would defo want to know.

So thanks :)

Thank you very much for the welcome.

And thanks very much for your opinion on the bike. In fact this bike also comes with the carbon fibre effect dash and yokes.

Cheers.

Jeezuz, don't be saying that. This lot'll all need to get their doors widened now. :smash2:
