8 of us are doing France,Spain,Italy in June.I'm told as long as your not doing excessive speed they turn a blind eye to bikes, seems 90-100 is ok when safe to do so.
Let us know how you get on.

I think they are more hot on overtaking over double white lines and think this is true on most of the continent!

Ridden through France the last 2 years, never had a problem with Gendarmerie <sp>? even when taking wrong turns up one way streets, confused at roundabouts and high speeds on the auto routes. You seem to be safer when travelling as a group, not many lone cops / cars are likely to stop a group of 10 or so bikes now are they ?? :yo:

Toured the Pyrenees last year. some of our group were on Comm's and were given an on the spot fine of approx ?30. Apparently there is some old and obscure law that forbids a personal walkman from being used whilst driving so they done them on having headsets.

Came acress as being right up their own arses, but hey they had the guns so yes sir, right sir.

Been warned by a colleague who lives in Spain to watch out if you are solo riding they tend to find something to have you on (Squeel boy squeelman8um ) but usually leaves groups alone.

It is true about the Spanish cops, they will fine you on the spot and if you dont have the cash they will take you to a cash till. If you cant pay, you get your bike impounded. Depending upon the speed involved, you could find your self with a fine and your bike confiscated.

Rule of thumb, if you see a cop, treat him with respect. They do also operate hand held radars.

However, if it was a case for me of being stppoed and fined, then so long as I had a resonable amount of fuel in the tank, I'd take off and hide somewhere down the road for an hour or two.

Alweays fill up when you pss a fuel stop as sometimes they do get a bit thin on the ground.

I just got back from Malaga yesterday, was bombing along the N340 between Estepona and San Pedro and there was a green and white van in the nearside lane doing precisely 100 clicks - it looked suspicious and to me appeared to be a mobile radar detection unit. My Spanish isn't great but I think the new overhead gantry signs were displaying warnings that these things were about.

Did that last time, shooting over the border into Andorra with the cops hot on our tail. What a hoot. Rich my mate was livid at us, we nearly pissed ourselves laughing at him.

Nah, that was the time after that one.

But I did relate the story to you and showed you where the cops were waiting as we passed them at warp factor 9.

It was like watching a scene out of the keystone cops watching them throw their ciggy's down and run for the car to try and catch us. Feckin hilarious.

All we could see in our mirrors was tiny blue flashing lights in the distance a we blatted down the outside of the stationary traffic leading to the border - they never had a chance.

Baz - a click is a term I've always used for a kilometre - hence 100 clicks / 100kmh

Not that I would know, but I shouldn't worry too much, the cars will be going faster than you mate.
If you want a Spaniards view you're welcome to PM me your route and I'll give you some advise, but forget the horror stories and all the anicdotal tribe you heae/readm - which ever way you look it, Big Brother hasn't quite arrived in Spain yet!

I've now given up road riding in the UK, but am more than happy to ride in France, Spain & Portugal.
