Live and let live.

Are we going to stop using electricity because power stations pollute the atmosphere, the internal combustion engine, cows (major methane polluters)
Vehicles because thousands are killed every year in accidents.

Ok cigarette smoke may be smelly but so are old people, the unwashed, the garlic eaters, bean eaters etc.

Another ex smoker

Cant see what all the fuss is about.

Ban smoking from food pubs

Give landlords the choice if they want a smoking or non-smoking pub, but cant be both.

I think if there was a big demand for non smoking pubs somebody would have done loads of them by now.

All of you who want smoking banned, are you as tolerant of ramblers who want all green laning stopped? Its not the actual issue im talking about here, its the intolerance itself.

I dont and never have smoked.

better idea ban food from pubs :yo: :yo: :yo:

they are a place to meet friends and have a laugh NOT a place to eat. that is what cafes and resturants are for.

as for the demand for them that is my point exactly that i was arguing this morning at work. IF there was a demand for them where are all the non smoking pubs?????? :dunno: :dunno:

I can't believe you lot still think this is something to do with customer choice........ It's not!!

It's to do emloyee's rights in the enclosed workplace, and employers avoiding compensation claims from employee's exposed to cancer from passive smoking. It's not just pubs either, it's any enclosed place of employment but it's pubs under the spotlight cos they are so public.

BTW - as it turned out, thousands of pubs and restaurants in Ireland didn't go bust as the smokers so vehemently whined and winged about!! :neenaw: :neenaw:

i read this week that 31% did????

also read that the ones in london who have been smoke free for nearly 2 years have turn the tables due to lack of trade.

Dunno then :dunno: .

I only said that cos I think it was Gary Hunniford (sp?) on Sky news a couple of weeks ago did a little report from Ireland interviewing landlords and customers, to gauge the impact. The impression was that once everyone got past the initial period and everybody got used to the idea the trade drifted back. A lot of Landlords said the ban didn't make any difference at all as there was a general acceptance that it was in force and that was that! Some of the smokers even joked about the amusing "ritual" of going outside to have a drag. Some of the landlords have fixed up like little smoking shelters out in the garden and everone seemed happy.......

refering back a couple of posts to Rob saying it's because of employee health and safety stuff, how about me then!! I have to go into all sorts of canteens and rest rooms to fill me poxy machines, the majority NOW are smoke free zones however there are still some places where smoking IS allowed I have to go into these places, imho the WORST place I have ever been has GOT to be Pinderfields hospital in Wakefield, the staff "smoking room" has to be smelt to be belived!! :puke: I literally cant stay in there for more than a couple of minutes, even some of the "smokers" have to have the window open  the inside of the machine is literally brown with nicotine :puke: how do I tell my "employers" I'm not going into any smokey areas!!

Rob, I know full well that the government is using H&S legislation to push this through. The big problem is that the majority of staff, certainly the pubs I go to, all actually smoke themselves. So its not exactly a risk to them is it.

Just watched the news tonight where some woman claimed she had a "right" to go to a pub and not have inhale smoke. Sorry, dear, no you dont. You may have an expectation, but you dont have a right. Smokers too do not have a right to smoke. The fact that they can do so does not confer a right to do so.

If we continue down this road of single group "rights" we will end up living in an intolerable society

Perhaps not.

But they see the potential litigation coming from not from those that do smoke, but from those that don't!

no problem there either!! the big pub chains move all their "smoking" staff to a "smoking" pub and all the "non smokers" to their "non smoking" pubs problem solved on one side the smaller pubs just swap staff until they too are all or non!! :dunno:
just like the rest of the bloody country's going!! divide and conquer

Everyone talks about the right to smoke in pubs, what about the stench that goes with smoking not to mention the effects on other peoples health.

Smokers are a minority but they still kick up such a fuss, it's my right...........
what about the rights of the non smoker? Those who smoke and drive, i'll bet they're quick to throw fag ends out of the windows of cars because they don't want their cars stinking of fags.

Personally i like to drink, a bi-product of drinking is urine. If i pissed up the leg of a smoker, would they be impressed?? I THINK NOT.

I feel that smokers are a breed that think of nobody but themselves:rant:

Thanks, back to work now.

I remember Larry hagman (JR Ewing)telling Michael Parkinson that he always carrys a battery operated fan with him, if someone lights a cig in his vicinity he turns the fan on and points it at the offender, if they complain which they invariably do he just explains that he has no wish to share their smoke
