Heat the alloy(swing arm) so it expands, freeze the bolt so it shrinks!
Just like when you freeze a bearing in your kitchen freezer before you fit to a wheel, engine case etc............heating the bolt steel on steel then yes,but you are trying to break the connection between two different metals. Alloy and steel.

Diver bones,if you're at drill out stage cut it flush with dremel etc.centre punch remaining bolt and drill out starting with small bit,do your self a favor and buy brand new fresh drill bits. Sometimes I've had good luck after first drilling hole in hammering in a torx bit and unscrewing, heat from that probably helps! Otherwise just take it slow up your drill bits and your may save the swing arm thread. Again good luck, just done poxy downpipe nuts job myself.

Thanks lamplighter. Would you believe one of my presents at Christmas was a set of left hand drill bits! You never know - the heat and friction from the drill might do something. I suspect they might be in use soon.
Oh, and she got a reg/rect and cam chain tensioner among her pressies!!!!

I'm sure someone has said it.........

but please do NOT be tempted to use an extractor (easyout) after drilling.

Diver bones,if any consolation ...I've just removed the downpipe nuts from my '97 bike. I spayed daily for a week with gt85 heated as far as I dare with a small blow torch but only 3 nuts came undone the other 5 brought their studs with them! I'm grateful that I have no drilling out to do because it's such an awkward position but for all the advice you may get sometimes when you get down to it 'BE LUCKY!

good looking AND modest
As has been said before, a good soak in a penetrating fluid, shy of that a look on the bay of fleas for a second hand swinging arm, would probably end up the cheaper/easier route to go, good luck and please keep us up to date on how you get on!!

One of them is probably mine. - I vividly recall riding home without a swingarm after a JAWS 'service'.

Put a picture of Ann Widdecombe next to the nut, she would make most things pull their nuts out damm quick.

Well, the way you used to ride I knew you did not need it and it was just unneeded weight

Just in case anyone is interested - it snapped. Having done all I could/ should I just had to turn it till something happened. Believe it or not it had to happen just as my wife came into the garage to say dinner's ready (it's her bike). Fortunately I had told her this was a high probability so no hissy fit. For what is probably the first time ever I managed to drill down the centre of the bolt and tap out the hole. So the bike now has a cleaned up e-bay item and still looks original. Now time to order the new chain and sprockets that started all this carry on.

Thanks to everyone who took time to give advice. At least I could then tell the wife that I had done everything to avoid problems and it wasn't just my incompetence.
