brilliant. Had been planning to get the touring kit until just now when I read on their website that qualification about Blackbirds, but if it fits fine, I shall stop worrying and continue with the plan!!!!! :neenaw:

Thank you lots for the info. :k

I use the Scottoiler red oil and get up to 1500km between refills from the (50 ml?) cylinder at best guess. My static flow rate when everything is cold is about 1 drip every 1.5 minutes. This is less than recommended but anything more has oil running down one of the centrestand legs from chain throw-off. I guess the chain must be getting sufficient lubrication though as it's done over 30000km from new and I never need to adjust it between tyre changes.

I think Scotoiler say the touring kit needs altering to fit the Bird is to do with the fact that the lock/release for the seat may be obstructed unless you use your noggin and fix it a little lower down the fender. Simple.
You'll also probably find that with the touring kit fitted, the number plate wobbles a little due to the extra wieght on the fender, mine has always done it but has ever been a problem.

If you fit a duck tail and then put the scotoiler a little lower so that the key can fit in to release the seat you will have no problems at all. Make sure though that you use nuts and bolts to fit the duck tail and not self tapping screws coz they will pull out.

If you fit the touring kit a little lower down, you don't need a duck tail at all, coz the number plate is set further back from the fender it does the same job.

If you have the oiler set right it shouldnt be blathering oil all over the bike and wheel, but it is easier to clean off than chain lube. It wipes of fine with a sponge when you wash the rest of the bike.

Hi Smix
If you want to get an up grade to a touring kit. Try a Lube tube that works very well and you can take it of when your touring has finished.

Umm - not sure I know what you mean by a lube tube?!! h1d1ng2

I haven't actually got a Scottoiler yet, been meaning to for ages, but worried about how easy it will be for me to fit. I think the bit I heard where you have to lift the tank and fit something to something under there scared me off!! But I am determined to get one this year, and will probably just fit the touring kit and leave it there as it usually does quite a lot of miles!!!!!! :neenaw:

Hmmmmm... well how do I put this........

the "lube tube" is a sort of flexible sausage shaped thingy around 10 to 14 inches long (I think, but I do get these sort of measurements wrong!) which contains a suply of scotoil.... it connects to the scotoiler gubbins instead of a touring kit and suplies additional oil in the same way.

The idea is that 'cos it's soft and flexiable you can just squeeze and twist it around so that it's always possible to fit it somewhere under the seat....

Honestly...... I'm serious - not often though!!
