There's some crazy shit in the Portuguese press this morning - they report that tranquilizers and a syringe were found in the apartment, that the UK sniffer dog detected the sent of a corpse in the apartment, the hire car and on the beach!

I don't think we can believe any of this. What's interesting is that the moment the police say they are not considering this an abduction case, Gerry McCann says he's toning down his media campaign.......... I still have a horrible feeling about the bloke when I see him.......

When the police advised the couple not to leave Portugal as they are about to announce an important development, why did he fly to Edinburgh? Seems to be many inconsistencies, but as Rob said this is hopefully just the media........ What I don't like is that he seems to refer to his daughter without so much as an ounce of warmth.....it's weird if you ask me. I know I sound like I've got in in for the bloke, but my instincts are nagging me that somethings not right..........

This is the kind of sh1t that gets me! HTF do they know it was the scent of a corpse did the dog say "feck me I can smell a corpse in here, oh and here in the car, and oh here as well next to billions of grains of sand and a see full of living and dead things"

I may not know whats going on in the case but its obvious no one else does either if this is the kind of reporting thats going on

Some Portuguese gutter press no doubt. The syringe story is on the front page of the the Daily Express today. "Syringe Found In Madeleines' Apartment"............. they say a syringe was found in the parents bedroom......... if true, then no doubt the couple will say they were trying for another IVF baby and that's why it was there.

Oh, if it's on the front page of the Daily Express then it must have substance...my fookin peg.......

......this is the same "newspaper" that without fail , has for the last 10 fookin years, given front page coverage at least several times every week, week in week out, to how a Blonde bint who was shagging a Raghead got murdered by Lord Lucan before he made a daring getaway on Shergar...

...so maybe the syringe was left by drug crazed aliens...???

Now this is why I find the papers so fooking dangerous. 115+ days after the event some Portuguese tabloid that is already engaged in a sustained persecution campaign against the McCanns comes out with a headline like this. Then (taking care to attribute the allegation to the Portuguese tabloid Correio de Manha, probably to safeguard itself against future libellous litigation) the Express follows suit the next day.

Now I've had a good look around the Sky and BBC news websites, and those of a few other papers, and there is no mention of these sensationalist headlines by any of the responsible news organisations yet, if it were true, something like this would represent a significant breakthrough and therefore be quite newsworthy.... but there's nothing! - so I think it has to be treated with extreme caution and assumed to be untrue.

However, the disturbing fact is that a percentage of Express readers [and others] will eagerly consume this shite adding cumulative weight and momentum to the hate campaign. Consequently, an ever widening belief emerges that the McCanns are actually guilty of orchestrating Madeleines disappearance .... yet virtually all of the "evidence" feeding this belief originates from tabloids that have no real access to any of the facts.

I'm not just out to defend the McCanns for the sake of it, I am trying to looking beyond the headlines at what is actually known. The more I look at it the more I am inclined to believe the McCanns are on the receiving end of a very unfair deal, fuelled mainly by notoriously unreliable tabloid sensationalisms.

It may well turn out that the McCanns are implicit in this case, but I just can't go with this belief that because there's nothing to prove anything to the contrary then the McCanns must be guilty. I just think that is way too short sighted and premature.

In the light of so few known facts it's all very well for those that are so quick to be the judge, jury and executioner of the McCanns, but they should remember that in the event of false allegations being levelled against them, they would be the first to squeal "innocent until proved guilty"!!

I donated to the fund over two months ago, under the belief that the pot (which is now over ?1M) would be used to actively search for Madeleine. That's what it stated on the website.

Last week the McCann's said that they wouldn't be suing the Portuguese press, and this morning it's being reported that they have instructed lawyers to file a libel suit against the Tal & Qual newspaper.

I'd like to know if the money that I and many others donated to aid the search for Madeleine will now be used to cover legal fees? If so, I want a refund!

Cheers Cyclops - a most interesting read.

One of the poster's thoughts was "The worse thing for me is to have to watch that silly woman carry a pink teddy everywhere she goes, just a shame she didn't see fit to apply the same mindset to her gorgeous little girl!"..............spot on

The ltd company set up within days. The fact that the McCanns stated that they chose the resort because of it's 'in-house' babysitting service, yet never once used it.........

"Had a single mum who ran out of milk popped out to a local shop 50 metres away for supplies and found on her return that one of her babies was missing the same British public would vilify her and her other two children would be in care faster than the speed of light!........ where's the difference"........spot on again

"McScams"......... I hope it's not true

That would be significant - where did the McCanns state that Sam?, I'd like to have a read of that.

It's sickening what some people are prepared to write in support of their belief that the McCanns killed Madeleine.... [From Cyclops site] one sick bastard reckons they "killed her so they could replace her with another child that wouldn't have a wonky eye". Fook me - that saddo needs psychiatric help.

I'm not at all surprised they are suing that Portuguese paper, good for them. No matter how composed you are there must be a limit to what an individual can tolerate being said about them. To be openly accused in print of killing your own child must be the most painful thing a parent could be accused of. I think the fact that they are prepared so swiftly to start this action, therefore exposing themselves to the deep and probing public scrutiny that will result, says a lot in support of their claim not to be involved in Madeleines disappearance.

Sam - the rules of the fund are here and they do state in favour of financial support for the family. Having said that, I don't think the fund should be used to underpin this libel case either.

http://www.findmadeleine.com/fund/#t

It has to be said - the more you scrutinise this case and read what's being written and, more importantly, by whom, the more it looks like the McCanns are not involved. As far as I can see everything so far that suggests they are is coming either from public speculation or unreliable newspaper vendettas.

Today, the Portuguese police chief disassociated himself and his force from the Tal & qual paper and reiterated that the McCanns are not suspects.

Anybody know differently....?
