Mini voltmeter.

See my post#9. Carler. :-0)

See Mr. Haynes..fuse to switch, to brake light, to earth. Not exactly what you would expect but true just the same I think.
A piggyback at the brake lever should do it. And yes, as was said, Honda heated grips use it.

12v + goes from fuse to bulb and then through the micro switch to earth. Your satnav will get power to charge the internal battery until you brake. When you brake your external satnav power will effectively be shorted out. The battery in your satnav keeps everything going so you don't notice. It would probably do for a mini voltmeter providing you don't mind the reading going to 0v very time you brake. 8rfl@

In just about any motor vehicle, car bike truck etc, where there is a metal chassis then economics would dictate that you you that as one side of the circuit, saves on wire.
Live feed from the battery, via the ignition if required, is then controlled by a switch/sensor before going on to a device (motor/lamp/horn) and then on to earth to complete the circuit.
Quite often you can get odd/erratic faults that can be traced back to a poor earth.

Probably will only get used when the bike is on its side (Inj should stop anyway due to the tilt switch) and the bikes probably fooked then anyway!

Your only putting a volt meter in so the best place would be straight after the ignition switch, that way you will be reading a non corrupted voltage. Any bad joint after this point will drop the voltage in the circuit you have connected it into.

Personally If fitting a voltmeter I would use an ig+ from the fan fuse to a relay and feed the voltmeter direct (via a fuse) from the battery via the (now also ig+ switched) relay

You could do the job 'properly' h1d1ng2 as I have done. :-0)
All my 'extras' are fed off a second fuse box, with permanent and switched lives.

Alarm
SatNav
Autocom
Heated grips
12v under seat socket
etc
