On this subject, or it may have nothing to do with it, but I believe that Honda has not marketed the Bird in the U.S since 1993. Does anybody know why (Yea, of course you do ! ) h1d1ng2

Yeh, i know why... Coz it didn't come out until 1996

Birds over America

Ah! A bit of research on the net and I answer my own question. I didn't appeciate just how different the American market is to the European. 80 percent of bikes sold over the pond are cruisers apparently. The poor old Bird just didn't sell in adequate numbers. One quote I liked was " I like turning up to a big bike meet on a B/Bird cos I know mine'll be the only one there"
Discontinued in 2003 you can still find them in dealers !!!
I realise it's different "over there" but I didn't realise how different !!!! w;;v

Message received from Honda Japan.

"Dear Blackbird family members

It is with great regret that Honda announces the retirement of the CBR1100XX after a long and distinguished manufacturing run. In all honesty, we would have ceased production in 2002, as that is long enough for any bike to be on the market, but as all you daft bastards kept buying it, we thought what the hell, it saves on our R&D budget.

However, as a worldwide company with a strong ethical ethos, we just couldnt take the piss any more, so in time a suitable replacement machine will be made available. Due to extensive studies of our database showing average annual mileage to be approx 3500 we dont feel we need to bother just yet, as very few of these machines can have passed the running in stage.

Thankyou for all your loyalty

Yours sincerely

Mr S Honda"
