past or present?

I'VE HAD MY 2001 BIRD FOR 3 YEARS NOW AND EVERY NOW AND AGAIN, LIKE WE ALL DO, I FEEL LIKE A CHANGE. AT ONE POINT A THOUGHT BUSA' SO HAD A RIDE AND THERE WAS NOTHING TO SWAY ME AWAY, THE QUALITY WAS HORRENDOUS AND THE DIFFERENCE ( I FELT} IN POWER WAS MARGINAL.SO IT HAS'NT GOT RADIAL BRAKES, IT HAS'NT GOT THE LATEST SUSPENSION BUT IT HAS GOT THE TYPICAL HONDA FINISH AND RELIABLITY. THAT ALONE IS TESTAMENT TO HOW THE BIRD HAS BEEN SINCE 96, I DONT THINK THERE ARE MANY OUT THERE TO ACHIEVE THAT KIND OF STATUS. OF COURSE ITS NOT ALL PRAISE, SHE IS HEAVY OF COURSE BUT YOU KNOW THAT WHEN YOU BUY ONE! AND FOR A 10 YEAR OLD DESIGN , QUOTING TOP END OF 180MPH , HOW MUCH FASTER ARE THE CURRENT SELECTION? ITS BEEN HARD TO FIND A REPLACMENT AN SO FAR I HAV'NT SO I'LL WAIT FOR THE NEW ONE ARRIVE AND SEE WHAT HONDA HAVE TO OFFER. YOU HAVE TO KNOW WHAT YOU WANT, SPORTS OR TOURER OR EVEN BOTH, I KNOW WHERE THE BLACKBIRD LIES!

PS THIS IS MY FIRST POSTING SO BE GENTLE ON THE REPLIES.

nope dont do gentle.

current top end for bird ranges from 165mph-178mph depending on what bog paper you read.

Bird finsh is not good, paint is soft, forks flake, fairing bolts go rusty. my old mans cbr1000 from 1989 has a much better finsh by far.

every week somebody on here has a reg/rec/alternator go down, from 3500miles upwards.

cct go from same milage up.

latest suspension  it never was even when new.

rear shocks can be fecked by 10000 miles.

wheel bearings went at 25000-30000 miles.

gsxr750 is banging on the top end speed tests now a difference of nearly 400cc!!!

number of people selling their birds is high, honda has fecked around on its arse for too long and peeps are buying blades r1 etc etc because they can tour, handle better, brake better, lighter, better all rounders even.

the bird is now def a pipe and slipper bike, living on its gory from 96-98, the inj version never even came close to the other bikes of the time.

GRANTED I TRY NOT TO USE IT IN WINTER AND YOUR RIGHT ON A FEW THINGS THERE, THE FORKS DO GET PITTED. I'VE 16K ON HER AND THE OTHER WEEK I LOOKED AT AN 05 ZX12R WITH ROUGHLY THE SAME MILEAGE , THE PAINT WAS FLAKING OF IN MOST PLACES. THE FINISH ON MINE IS PRETTY DAMN GOOD REALLY. LIKE I SAID IT DEPENDS WHAT YOUR AFTER AND YEAH , YOUR SPORTS BIKES ARE UP TO 180+ THESE DAYS BUT THATS PROGRESSION FOR YOU SO YEAH THE BIRD COMPARED TO THE LATEST BREED IS LAGGING AND HONDA SHOULD HAVE ADDRESSED THIS A LONG TIME AGO INSTEAD OF, LIKE THE REST PUTTING ALL THEIR TIME INTO THE 600/ 1000 MARKET BUT THATS WHERE PEOPLE ARE BUYING. I DONT THINK ITS QUITE PAST IT YET, THE BIRD CAN STILL PULL A TRICK OUT OF THE HAT NOW AND AGAIN.

Nowt wrong with the finish on the BUSA, i've ridden mine in March through the salty shitty roads, left it out all night in a torrent of rain and its still like a new pin. The graphics are a bit pants but hey, thats it really.

The metal work is as good as any other, the forks aren't gonna flake like the Honda........I owned my XX for 3 years and loved every moment of it but i thought the difference between the 2 bikes was enough for me to change.

Interestingly, I had TWO busa's in for work this week,,
One was an 04 and it was a peach.. not a blemish on it apart from some paint wear on th etank in the knee area. ( the bike has been used for a daily 70 mile round trip commute since new )..

The following day I had an old one in.. Chap has looked after it as best he can but the poor thing is really falling apart under him.. Corroded thios, rusty that, siezed one of those...

I have a feeling Zuk finally addressed the quality issue and their later offerings are MUCH better than the old(er) bikes..

B/Birds in the USA

On this subject, or it may have nothing to do with it, but I believe that Honda has not marketed the Bird in the U.S since 1993. Does anybody know why (Yea, of course you do ! ) h1d1ng2
