depends on your standard of riding your best bet is to get yourself down to Loughor boating club on Sat mornings and get a free assessment ride with an observer
you'll always learn something

I've been riding for 36yrs but only done some training this last 4
done levels 1,2,3,4 with California superbike school then I.A.M. last year combining I.A.M. and track training it's been the best money I've ever spent on motorcycling

Speaking as a former senior observer, then yes get some training. Even if you only learn one thing, it might be that that saves your life.

I've got my IAM test tomorrow and have found the sessions excellent. I did a police course 15 years ago but hadn't been on a bike for 9. I would recommend advanced training to anyone - as has been said, it might just be that one thing that saves your life.

Peevers, hope you passed. If so, congrats.

taffthemagicdragon, yes the IAM has to be worth ?85. I'm a Police bikesafe instructor/assessor. I've had quite a few IAM bikers pass through my mitts and generally they're pretty good. If ?85 means your around for a bit longer with your loved ones then go for it. If you only pick up a fraction of what the IAM have to offer, that fraction alone could be enough to save your bacon one day.

tellboy

Did the bikesafe course in Sussex last year, very good, great value, good lunch and got to watch a bloody good Police Rider in action.

Well worth it if anyone has the chance!

Pevers did pass

Guys - sorry haven't been online for a few days. Yes, I did pass. Not my best ride but OK - pissing with rain and howling wind (weather, not my arse!) plus an unusual amount of knobs in cages (then again, when aren't there in Southend?!). Examiner was very straight forward - good feedback. Long talk after about the difference between making progress here and in Hong Kong where I was a police motorcyclist - if you don't like high speed filtering you're not going to get anywhere - and watch out for trams, rickshaws, hundreds of pedal cycles and (then, not now) no drink drive laws so lots of pissed drivers at night!!

I go to the Chelmsford and District Advanced Motorcycle (CADAM) club - good bunch of blokes, well organised ride outs and interesting club night talks (paramedics, DSA etc). Anyone in this neck of the woods who is interested - I would be happy to introduce you.

Bob,

I'm always a little reserved when entering/disclosing personal details on web sites, so bear with me. I will answer specific questions if I feel I can do so without revealing too many personal details.

Firstly, as you know, the very nature of Bikesafe speaks for itself. It's well advertised and known within the bike riding fraternity.

As for myself, yes I ride a Bird socially. In work I have the pleasure of riding a Honda ST1300 with a rather vibrant livery on mainland UK.
I have to be a little guarded because, shock horror, there are some people out there who dislike the Police.
regards,
Tellboy
