Look at it another way.. £20k for a car and enough change left for three or four Blackbirds.

So just what defines an impressive car? I paid less than £4K for mine 5 years ago, it does what it says in the book, has cost very little in any repairs. Still goes like a scalded cat..... impresses me ....

The best way of motoring, some brilliant older cars out there for silly money.

All down to personal preferences, I suppose.... I've got an old RX8 and it impresses me.....cheap to buy, revs like a 2 stroke, fast enough for most roads, handles like an overgrown go-kart and takes 4 adults....but I know plenty who wouldn't touch one with a barge pole.

You should try one that has been stripped out on the track.

Ruddy good fun!!

A friend of mine was an instructor for the free trackday you got with the RX8. The number of issues with them was astonishing. Not just the predicatable oil consumption but the implications of stalling etc. I wouldn't touch one unless it was someone elses!

The one I was involved with was an absolute blast around Brands Indy circuit. Can't remember any great mechanical issues, but to be fair we didn't pay a lot for it and didn't really look after it overly well....

Until the owner put it into the Armco at Druids.........

The stalling problem is a bit of a myth. The only time it's an issue is if you start and stop it immediately when it's really cold. Even then, it mainly affected the early ones. Ive done it once in 5-6 years of ownership and it was my own stupid fault for moving the car off the driveway one winter morning.

The oil consumption is similar to most other sports cars when driven hard. e.g. I've compared notes with Nissan 350Z owners and it's about the same.

Most RX8 problems are owner induced....too few people do their research before buying one. The only mechanical problem I've had so far is the odd droplink replacement over the years. They do seem to give them a hard time.

Thrashing the nuts off them seems to help as well.......
