On the news today - Racism in Spain at Barcelona practice, several guys all dressed up as monkeys causing havoc. Now they might chuck Spain out of the F1 GP circuit.
I believe there were cases of racism at a football match too,
I dont know. Perhaps a ban for Spain for a few years might do the trick.
Bad news though..

Well I felt absolute disgust and outrage and actually a little sick. I was shocked and upset that this sort of thing could happen.

Unlike Lumpy it didn't make me laugh at all.

But thinking about it, if it was meant in a friendly, jokey sort of way, what is the difference between a group of jokers blacked up in wigs, mickey taking re Hamilton and another group dressed in tartan bonnets and ginger wigs aimed at some Scot?
Debate.

According to the news, Hamilton was upset.
If it was just friendly mickey taking then the "group" should speak out publicly, apologise, explain themselves and admit that they made an error of judgement.
If there was a more sinister intent then they should still publicly apologise and be prosecuted.

The chanting aimed at black football players is, I believe a different a matter. Totally wrong and the perpetrators and clubs must be held to account.

Have I missed something.

Was this crowd a parody of Black men or were they supposed to be monkeys.

If the latter then they should be jailed.

The perpetrators yes but why the clubs? how can you hold a football club responsible for the actions of a few mindless morons? Clubs are doing their best to stamp out racism in Football but you will always get the mindless few who try to spoil things.

Then it is up to the clubs to do better. Where there's a will there's a way.

I am not a football fan Derek. Never interested me. I know it's only a minority who spoil things, same with any type of hooliganism.
You will know far better than me what goes on at football matches and we all know that the media love to highlight difficulties rather than the good things.

Has the situation re racism and hooliganism at football matches improved in recent years?

I accept that I don't know what I'm talking about. No first hand experience or second hand anecdotes. My only info. is from the media. Poor source I know :)

We discussed this last night ( had a few of the family round ) and all came to the conclusion it is another case of the overly sensitive being overly sensitive and trying to make something seem evil when it was just a group of folk actually saying look at us, we are supporters.

I mean, just how many racist accusations do the rounds at moto gp circuits when people wear a friz wig and talk in fratured italian ?

None.. zilch.. feck all..
Ah but then, the person is not a touchy feely tosser who thinks he rules the world.

Oh and he aint black and aint playing a racist card..

Mr Hamilton, you have done your self no good at all mate..

To be fair I have disliked F1 for many years now, because of the total wankers involved in the game, and you are merely another example of a pathetic little boy who happens to be able to drive quick.. but one who does not live in the same world as normal people.

Today you lost a lot of fans both for your self and for your sport.. Hopefully Mr Gnome, noddy fookin nolegs who runs the so called sport will soon die and let someone else have a go who is not interested soley in the bottom line but in the sport its self..
Then the likes of cheating little oiks who pretend to be offended just for a headline will soon be ousted by proper people.

Clubs do have a duty of care & I'm sure most clubs do their best to provide that duty of care, police officers are employed on match days so is it not them who should be held accountable? it would be ridiculous to penalise the clubs or the police for every dickhead that shouted out an obscenity or racist remark at a football match.

If we are going to penalise football clubs why not penalise pubs & bars when a drunken brawl starts? or how about if I go into my local newsagent & someone emits an obscenity or a remark that I find offensive do I sue the shopkeeper?

As for racism at football matches Paul I can honestly say I have not witnessed much in the last couple of years but I cannot speak for every football club all I will say is it goes on in the street it will go on at football/rugby/cricket etc

According to the reports (whether you believe them or not :dunno:) every time Hamilton walked across the pits he was jeered by the idiots dressed up as 'monkeys' so (assuming that was true) not exactly what you could call friendly banter, as for Hamilton being overly sensitive all he said was that he loved the Spanish and Spain and was saddened by their behavior, hardly the actions of someone with a chip on their shoulder about their colour.

Don't think he's lost too many fans (except some spanish racist tossers)

He certainly hasn't got a chip on his shoulder, saw him on Top Gear just before xmas and it just added to my belief he's a down to earth all round nice chap

If the Barca FI was people just having fun why does it happen at football matches as well.
The match I was on about was the Spain V England..2 odd years ago..
Both of these times it was not done as a laugh... as been said it happens all over the place..even the gentlemans game of cricket has had its share..

Happy to admit it too if the guy is as you folks reckon, an alright bloke..
