Welcome aboard B1irdie and lensman & whichever pillion you turn up with  , you're all most welcome.

Please checkout post # 21 on page 2 for the latest

At this stage I do need to mention that large group ride-outs do tend to knock the overall speed down a tad. Although we'll be operating a group ride system, with leader, sweeper and comms relay, this does not preclude anyone cutting loose and meeting up with the group at one of the later stops. So, if you do think the pace may be a bit slow for you, you fancy 'doing your own thing' and you know the route well enough then please let me know at the meet up or subsequent break stops so that we're not trying to account for you during the ride. If you don't know the route or are happy to get along at the group speed and enjoy being part of a big group of Birds then you don't need to say owt, but just tag along.

As we've quite a few 'virgin' attendees, I think it's worth outlining how the ride will work:

For those who are part of the group ride there's just a couple of simple things:

Do not pass the leader (me) 'cos you can guarantee that as soon as you have we'll turn off onto a different road!!! Then we have to stop the ride and send an outrider off to gather you back in.

The last bike will always be the sweeper (Quiney) - he won't let anybody get behind him! So, if the pace turns out to be too fast for comfort then just ride at a pace that you're happy with. The group won't vanish into the distance and be gone forever as the leader will be made aware of this and the ride re-grouped in time for any turns at junctions and the like. This explains why the leader will occasionally bimble along for a few minutes, or even pull up and wait. In this case, always pull in behind the leader - a spot will be chosen where there's enough room. So, if the group does go out of sight DON'T WORRY, just keep on the same road and you'll come across it in time for any direction changes.

As we have a comms relay (Stuey) we do have the luxury of letting the group get a bit stretched out on the faster sections. Please do not feel drawn into trying to keep up with the group if it's going at a pace that you're not happy with. Our over-riding concern is safety, yours and other road users.

Finally, if there's owt that's concerning you during the run then have a word with me or Quiney at a convenient point.

Once we've got the safety part sorted then we can concentrate on the next priority which is for everyone to have a great day.

Sounds great Clive, I'm running in so please pass.

We've changed the coastal destination from Sutton on Sea to Mablethorpe. Not a great distance apart these two, but we've learnt that Sutton on Sea may be closed :bang:

Now then; anybody know a good place in Mablethorpe to get lunch where we can park up 20 Birds??? Preferably within sight of the sea.

Workmate of mine used to live at Sutton on Sea and his parents are still there. I have just mailed him regarding the cafe at Mablethorpe as hopefully he will know somewhere as he is still living fairly local.

Can now confirm that Polly will be pillion on Sunday - looking forward to it and counting down the days

There is a carpark on the main road (on the left as u come into Town) if I remeber right there is a dedicated parking area in there for bikes or the main ramp up to the beach (end of main road) there no parking signs but no'one takes any notice, as long as u dont block vehicular access (famous last words).
Food - there's loads of places to eat, not a problem.

Just had a little ride out to Mablethorpe

to suss out the car parks.
There are plenty and well sign posted. Most are pay and display. Couldn't see a tarrif for bikes but most are ?1.20 and ?1.50 for cars up to 2 hours. There are private car parks ?2.00 and ?3.00.
I spoke to one private car park attendant right on the front and asked what he could do for about 20 bikes on Sunday and he said ?10.00 the lot. He said all the car parks are full by about 1100 on a Sunday but he would try and fit us in.

OK Clive

I should be ok without the GPS. It's only 200 metres and in a straight line.
If I get lost though, I'll blame my navigator on the pillion. Again.

MABLETHORPE

I had a load of clothes pinched off a washing line in that quaint little seaside resort about 12 years ago  , thieving bastards.
Nicked my t-shirts, jeans, shorts, undies and socks...........had to buy crap from the indoor market next morning :loo:

Superb beach though, bit breezy but clean. :yo:

Well done guys, brilliant idea which should put some form of order into what should be a good day out.
I for one know how frustrating it can be to be against the clock and the enjoyment factor goes out of the window.
If you need any further assistance just let me know, i'm more than willing to lend a hand.
