CCT honda/jaws difference

TANK0700

big soft, not so cuddly
I've heard that when changing the CCT the chain can skip a tooth when carrying out the procedure? How can you be sure this won't happen??
as said before I have changed 2 and never heard that before , just keep the bike still one bolt is a pig to get at , but

Just fitted new CCT all went well.
Just a question:
What is the small screw for in the end of the tensioner under the screw cap???

That is the way you retract a CCT if you are taking it out.

Your new one should have arrived with a small metal key fitted in there to hold it closed until after fitting.

You did remove the key and replace it with a cap screw ?????

I have known this to happen firestorms but never on any big fours & certainly not on a bird

Yes, followed the instructions to the letter. Just wondered why there was a screw in the end that's all. Thanks for clearing that up. Once bolted up I pulled the pin and heard a slight thud. I take it that was the CCT seating itself?

Thanks Deano much appreciated.
I am also doing the Rectifier and the loom fix tomorrow. I had a query about what to do with the spare male plug connecting to the loom once the new rec is fitted as the new one is wired direct to the battery and not the loom. Only one plug to the loom with the three yellow wires. I asked karen from Jaws by email about 5.00pm today and had a reply in about an hour! Fantastic service from JAWS.

Also a great forum as I am new to blackbirds and picked mine up last week hence doing the necessary jobs before the good weather comes!!

I have the same setup but using a higher rated r/r from a Yamaha R1.
I have wrapped the unused plugs with self amalgamating tape to keep crap out.

Loom fix is easy enough - disconnect battery - make sure your soldering is sound and there won't be any further issues.

Thanks a lot. I feel much happier after speaking to yourself and other forum members.

I take it the rec from JAWS is sufficient to not cause further problems?

From all reports - yes - they seem to be reliable units.

I went by the theory that a R/R rated for double the BB charging capacity would run cooler and last even longer.
Add in the better connectors and thicker wire - and it should be bomb proof.

IMHO the problems generally start with the battery, crj. Batteries do not last forever and as they deteriorate they place more and more load on the alternator to provider the extra power needed. Eventually the alternator starts to over heat and the insulation on the windings burns off causing shorts. Alternator output drops and the reg/rec has to work harder to supply the power the battery needs. A vicious circle which ends when you cruise to a halt with a flat battery at the side of the road. :xm Listen to your starter motor on start up every time and if it starts to taker longer then check the system out. Fit a mini voltmeter (99p from China) and watch what voltage is showing while the starter is turning over. You are looking for anything different. A worn out battery voltage will drop more on starter motor load than a healthy one. The meter will also give you warning if something fails and hopefully allow you to get home with as many electrical loads as possible such as lights turned off. :-0)

That is one advantage to the CARB bikes - they use much less power just to run the engine than the Fi with injectors.

noobie

Clueless in most things
The other advantage is that they are faster wooohooooo :-0)
