MPs are facing a furious public backlash after demanding their pay should rise to ?100,000 a year.

Backbenchers have written to the independent body which sets their salary, seeking an eye-watering 66 per cent increase on the current ?60,277.

They claim the huge hike would simply put them on a par with other senior public sector workers such as GPs and council chiefs.

Their basic salary might be 60K, but they get shed loads of bits and bobs on top of that - housing allowances, salary for the wife, sorry - an assistant, heaps of travel exes, and they work so few days they all have second jobs too. So they can piss right off with their 100 grand. Robbing bast*rds.

And that makes them no different from many in any position of authority in the public or private sector, but 100k salary is nothing unusual nowadays.

As many of you folk know I work from about 08.30 until around midnight 7 days a week.. I take 12 days off a year..

Those in this game know the profit margins are piss poor so yes, I could do a lot better but balls.. I have a great life and I do not need a million quid for Mo and me to live on...

Now the point is that like everyone else I paid my income tax amd road tax and VAT and this tax and breathing tax and all the other fuckin tax I am sposed to...

And a lot of that tax is gonna be used to pay those useless tossers enough money to live a life of luxury..

They DO NOT DO A GOOD JOB

They do not produce ANYTHING other than the destruction of trees perhaps

They contribute NOTHING but take lots

They are very def NOT green cos they all swan around in big cars and fly all over the place

They make laws that only affect the lesser members of society

All in all, if they were a group in the 30's they would have been flicking silver dollars in the air and totting tommy guns !!

Everywhere needs a govt and everywhere need personel in said govt.

What no where needs is a bunch of thugs, bullies and one mans cronnies to line each other pockets at the expense of the public, in the name of the country they are supposed to work for.

All valid points Jaws that I wouldn't argue against but your vision and my vision of an ideal government will never happen.

While there are hundreds of genuine, decent people like yourself there are thousands who want to maximise their own profits in whatever walk of life. MPs are no different and in the free labour market we sell our selves to the highest bidder.
As you say, MPs do not produce anything, but neither do the great many employed in this country.
Napoleon described us as a nation of shopkeepers. Probably more true now than ever.

Whether a surgeon, an MP, company chairman, footballer is worth their salary is a different matter. As we have seen with a few silver spooned MPs of the previous administration, being a millionaire isn't enough. Mendacity and corruption would appear to be a way of life. Messrs Aitken and Archer spring to mind.

At least this current lot have made vast improvements to the lives of many "lesser members of society" as you call them, who were at best ignored and at worst driven into poverty or an early grave by " the ordinary folk hating, heartless Tory regime" that squandered Britain's wealth on tax cuts for the rich, unemployment at 4 million plus, subsidies for the land owners and farmers, while taking them from other industry, started the swingeing cuts in defence and did lots and lots of very bad things that I can't be arsed to think about let alone type and this I fear is becoming the most grammatically incorrect and longest sentence ever typed on this forum..... Breathe out.

Well the thought was we CAN put the politicians to good use !

We can burn them to keep old folk warm..

but then no... sadly that would massively increase the carbon dioxide output of the UK what with all the hot air being released so maybe that was not such a good idea after all..
