I don't blip the throttle when changing down on the bike
I don't lock the rear either
My biking is mostly commuting these days

For roundabouts and junctions, I tend to change down from sixth to fifth after braking a little bit, then use the brakes to slow to the speed I need, then pull the clutch in and choose the right gear for the road speed to accelerate again

So I ride a bike like I drive the car

Don't know if they make one for the bird but maybe you could do with a slipper clutch.

FWIW I do subconteously (sp) blip sometimes but when really nipping on, I get a but of a wag from the back end when hard on the brakes setting up for corners, not good for tyre wear but :dunno: it works for me

well - I've had a go when slowing gently and it sounds lush!!! can see it being nicer to the engine too.

But haven't managed to get to grips with braking with more force and blipping at the same time - think I'm just going to have stretch my fingers!!!

And people have suggested a slippa clutch before, and I like the sound of it lots!! but think it will be too expensive to justify (although I'd have a damn good try!)!!!!

The front brake lever has 'span adjusters' on it, move the lever closer to the bar and use 2 fingers on the brake and blip the throttle to match the engine speed.

I guess its female thing trying to multi task, i can understand how weird it must be however it is essential to be slick with the controls.

sweetie pie - the adjusters are adjusted as far as possible.

next thing would be to bend the lever or shorten the internal pin (which is what has happened on the clutch lever to make it accessible!)

I'll see if I can get the pin shortened without compromising the usability of the brakes!! but since it wasn't done when the clutch was done it might be because it can't be done

Lots of people have said the same, in that they don't blip the throttle but remember Smix said she was having problems with the wheel locking when changing down going fast and braking. If you are just 'pootling' round at a gentle pace and the revs are low anyway, then you of course don't need to do it - its just when you have the bike in the upper half of the rev range and change down without wanting to loose too much speed.

So it depends on how you are riding really! The faster you are going the more important it is! :p

ooooooooooooo - wonder if I could get the rear wheels to lock up on that one - would be a bastid for filtering though!!!!!!!!!!!! :} :} :} :}

california superbike school - teach cornering on a track, but a lot of it is the theory which I think will suit me as I like to know why (about bike riding) as well as how

I would strongly recommend that you get some track time in before heading to CSS. We get a few students direct from CSS (levels 1 & 2) with little quality track time and they struggle.

Now I'm confused, easily done i know, but why is it necessary to change down if you are travelling at high speed?? Some say that blipping is important if you ride at high speeds, but I really dont see a need for it and think it must stem from ye olde machines. I honestly believe that it is unnecessary on todays machines.

If you is doing say... 180mph, why would you want to change down?? its the last thing I would think about doing!!! And I'm the CRAZY train!!

If you need to slow in a hurry, then surely just using the clutch in moderation will slow the bike quick without a lockup. So the only use I can think of is as stated, it might sound nice. And there is no shame in not blipping, in fact, I am going to be the founder of the anti-blipping society!! So blip off you blipping blippers.man8um
