Brake pedal

Wolfie

Is a lunp
use it!!!

just spent 4 hrs today stripping and cleaning the back brakes up cause , i don't normally use the pedal.

result was that the outer two pistons were sticking bad, cause they don't move when you just use the front lever.

was a right bastard job today that i don't want to repeat .

Wolvey, not sure if this is correct but someone told me that the

front pistons also need a bit of TLC now and then 'cos not all are engaged (even when braking hard). As a I say, not sure that this is correct, so if anyone can confirm this, I'd be grateful.

Brakes??

Hey Foxy , just delink the poxy brake system, i've ridden a BB that has had the brake system delinked and i tell ya m8 they are so much better, the standard system is for people who ride like poofta's and born again 's like Fat Bert, and it's a doddle to do m8 and the cheapest way is to buy all the fittings and a roll of braided pipe and make them up yourself it's easy . I reckon you are right joe,
rob lack of money and time stopped that idea.

back wheel has to come out to get the caplier off. You then need to put the wheel back on to move the bike to get the front lever to active the middle piston.

Right pain in the fookin arse.

Have to agree

the linked brakes are a pain in the arse, had to strip the front ones on my bike today as they were binding. :B

On the front there calipers are 3 pistons 2 large ones and one small one in the middle this is the one operated by the rear brake pedel. Pain in the arse but got it sorted.:}

Cant understand why this happens on the Honda as me Ducati gets used the same and the brakes dont have any problem at all ???????

About time bike manufactures realised that they ought to make things a bit better. Can you imadgine what would happen if cars did the same thing IE brakes siezing nuts furring up etc.

We pay enough for the bikes why they cant use stainless steel fasteners nuts etc I dont know, surly it would not add ?100s to the price of a bike.??????

Quiet Right

Fasteners and bolts etc on bikes have always been a bone of contention.

The manufacturers assume no-one rides in the winter!!

Well.....

there's nowt stoppin u replacing them bols/nuts with stainless or even drilled Titanium :neenaw:

One to watch out for here !!!

Every now and then a loud 'clunk' could be heard under braking. You'd swear blind I'd run over a coke can. Only seemed to happen when I used the rear barke pedal.

Stripped the rear and found a problem with the caliper bracket - the slot that holds the pad retention clip had partly worn badly.

With the running vibration the pads would settle at the lower point - when I hit the rear brake they would jump to the upper side of the slot making that 'clunk'

Took the ally bracket to a fab shop and had it built up and then milled a new slot in it.

So presumably, you've had your BB delinked, 'cos in your thread you state you've "ridden" a BB with delinked brakes. I'm currently considering this, but concerned about warrantly implications, given I've still a few months left on mine. However, if you're coming to the BASH this year I'd be careful who you call "puftas" :} :} :}

JoeBoy~~

Suspect that if you "amend" anything on the BIRD under warantee, Honda will use this as an excuse id tiy ever need to claim.

I'd either WAIT until the warantee expires or get written confirmation from your supplying dealer that it won't invalidate the warantee

OK, wots the real deal !

My bird is off the road until Scotland comes out of the deep freeze, so would you lot recommend the brakes being delinked, and if so, wots the best (i.e easiest!) way to do it ??

Thanks Bert.

Good advise for once :} I'll probably wait 'till April when the warranty expires and get them done then.

Russ, as far as the easiest, I know of a guy

who sells de-linking kits. He's based in Swindon (Wiltshire). His web site is www.321ignition.co.uk
I think he was at the Bash last year and Ben, Sam & I bumped into him at the NEC this year. I'm not sure if he's going to attend this year but he does mail order.

Pufta's ???

Well joeboy 100% bull , fat bert told me that everyone living south of Newport Pagnall was a sad southern pufta and who am i to argue with that. Anyway back to delinking , yes 321 ignition does do a kit at about ?250 or so , i will be doing my own next month , i will be making up my own brake lines etc and the bracket for the front left brake caliper it's not difficult i have no doubt you could do it yourself . i know a guy who bought one from 321 ignition and he let me try it and it does make a big difference, much better, but on saying that it still all depends on the type of rider you are , and no disrespect to anyone but for a lot of BB riders it would not be worth the expense they ride , what shall we say ....Sensibly???? . The implication is.....

you drive, how shall we say......'irresponsibly :neenaw:

Funny how most of us say LBS is 'okay' until the icy stuff appears and everybody starts delinking!!

Could it be the fronts going wobbley on the icey roads when yer braking with the rear?

Sorry to be smart arsed twat but:-

You should be using your rear brake a lot. If you ride a bike properly there are lots of occations where you should use it.

Smart arsed twat bit over:

I have been riding sports bike for over 25 year and never found any problem with the linked brakes even on the ice today. Found the rear brake very good and controlable, most sports bike rears are as much use as a Chocolate fireguard .

Rear brake.

Sorry but i don't use my rear brake that much, mainly as a stabiliser when braking very hard on bumpy roads i think this maybe due to racing two strokes for 10 years where you used the hardest rear pad compound you could get so that there was no possibility of locking the back end up, every one knows that the front brake is the real stopper, fortunately i don't have to ride in bad weather anymore, so guess what .... i don't. in my 32 years of riding on the roads there has never been a time when i did'nt have at least 1 bike. and i've done more than my fair share of winter riding 26 years of doing the Dragon Rally along with most of the other winter rallies i think i used to do more miles in the winter than the summer.
