Ive just been diagnosed as early onset of type 2 diabetes and told no carbs or very little, now i know the old git john is well up on the all meat n egg diet and wondered what it was called, so i can do a search and start it without all the crap that comes up when i do a search, losing weight is a big part of my stroke recovery this time so you can understand why im asking,
btw Andrew my mother died Saturday :yikes:

I had 2 weeks of 100% liquid food only
I used Huel ... takes a little getting used to
BUT I felt great and weight fell off me !
Loads of energy and slept really well !!
It’s like a protein shake but contains all vitamins and minerals you need
Takes 1-2 minutes to prepare !
If you are nearby .. I could make some up so you can try ???
I went back in solid food yesterday but I may go 2 meals of huel and one proper meal a day....
Got a discount code if you need one !!

Very sad to hear that Ian. Hope it was peaceful.

The Atkins diet is zero carbs as I understand it. I also understand Atkins himself died as a result of heart failure. Makes you wonder.

Atkins that was it, thank you Andrew, yes it is a shame, she died in her sleep, she was found by my brother when he went over to do her shopping.
Huel, i've not heard of that, i'll look into it, thank you.

Thinking about this, your GP/consultant should be giving you all the dietary advice you need.

Maybe not the best thing to do your own thing?

I need to shed a few pounds so I will be with you in effort and spirit over the next couple of months. Cutting down on the carbs and increasing the exercise for me. Problem I always have is that I am not a great lover of fruit and veg, have to force salad down!!

I was up to 16st 4lbs which at 5ft 8in was a tad overweight! My son put MyFitnessPal on my phone which lists all food and has a barcode scanner built in. It suggested at my age etc I should have 1250 calories per day and in six weeks I have lost 12 pounds just by watching my calories and having three meals per day. It takes only a few minutes to log each meal and the amount left in a day is clearly shown. Under eating is as bad as over eating. I too am diabetic and have used the Atkins on and off for years. My problem with the Atkins is I get sick of fry ups and meat and long for potatoes, rice, pasta and bread. Any weight lost with Atkins is soon put on again with the yoyo effect. Have a look at MyFitnessPal. :D

Come on you Hatters
Sorry to hear about your mum Ian. I’d second Bills app, been using it a while on n off. But I’m also under the hospital now and they’ve had me on a milk diet, which is pretty much just that with a vitamin pill and bovril drink. It’s a pre opp diet to shrink the Liver, but any opp is still a year off with loads of hoops to jump through yet!! (2stone down since xmas mind, lightest ive been for 3 years)

Sorry to hear about your mother.

I've had T2 diabetes for nearly 16 years and a number of things help with my blood sugar but guidance changes fairly frequently. Low GI (Glycemic index) was the in thing in early 2000 but more recently it's been the low carb diet. I did try a no carb diet last year (following Jaws' success as I needed to lose a few lbs) but for some reason, my blood/glucose levels went up. I was told that cutting out carbs meant my body was using stored fat & turning it into glucose to replace the carbs i cut out. I lost some weight but both my glucose and cholesterol went up. After that , I went on to a low carb diet which seems to work quite well. I also tend to steer clear of processed foods, such as ready meals, white bread, cakes where I can.

Any, try this, there's plenty of advice here.

Hi Ian, just back from hols, sorry to hear about your mum.
Sandra's daughter was diagnosed pre Type 2 a little while back. She has tried (very successfully) a diet called 'The 8 week blood sugar diet' by Dr Michael Moseley.
She got the book (Amazon) which has loads of info and food suggestions. She has raved about it, loved the food and has lost weight (without feeling starved of food)
Hope that is of some use mate.

This week I have cut out a lot of carbs.... about 6 or 7'slices of bread a day.......I love bread...and have lost three pounds!

  1. Fresh fruit salad for breakfast instead of toast
  2. Tortilla wraps instead of bread for lunchtime 'sandwich'
  3. Normal evening meal including carbs
Strange thing is I haven't felt hungry at all, to the extent that on three mornings I simply haven't felt hungry enough to have breakfast.

Sorry to hear about your mom Ian.

Isn't Karlos good at advice for that sort of stuff?

Paleo diet I think ?

He sent me some info that I used for a while, lost about half a stone.

Grass then.
Just grass and a few leaves with the odd veggie shoot.

Murt

I found that grass just gave me the munchies :eyepop:. Probably not the best thing if you're looking to change your diet.
