Zumo map updates??

Just received an email saying map updates are available, so went to Garmin and then proceeded to download their `express` and then their `plugin` to enable my 660 to be detected.
Connected my device(zumo 660) via a usb cable and windows pinged saying device was connected so then i clicked on Garmins button to find the zumo ...but no matter what i do it keeps saying no device detected????
Any idea what i may be missing/
I have tried on two laptops one with XP and one with Windows 8.1 and have the same result on both.
I have tried contacting Garmin but they seem to be permanently busy :bang:

can windows see it as a usb (? mass storage device) in my computer?

What does it say on the garmin screen when connected?

Used all last year for music and a couple of routes only and no hint of a problem, thats why i didnt think it was the card. Windows did pick up an error on first contact, but when checking said it couldn,t find an error ??, guess it must only scan the internal memory and not the external.
Didnt know you could get porn on a satnav :dunno::dunno:
