I had the pleasure of a trip around the Royal Marines museum in Portsmouth earlier this year with my old fella and his shipmates. The medal room is unbelievable.

Humbling.....

Jono (& any other serving or ex-forces peeps), what's your opinion of the removal of the MM from the gallantry awards in favour of the MC for all ranks? I think it's a bit of a shame really. Smacks of Socialism sticking it's grubby paw where it doesn't belong IMHO. It makes the MM seem a 'lesser' award than the MC which it abso-bloody-lutely isn't! Is it so terrible to have two equal, but diffrent awards for Soldiers And Officers?

Mixed feelings about the MC/MM. We have the VC for all ranks and by that reasoning there should perhaps be just the MC. There are other rank related medals such as the DFC/DFM. I don't think they are getting rid of the DFM but I may be wrong. My boy is going out to Afghanistan for his second tour next month and I don't care if he never gets a medal so long as he comes back safe and sound.

Thanks Wreckless.

Concur, wish him all the best and a safe tour, may not be any easier second time around but at least he has experience. He'll be fine. And despite what the media and government croaks on about, everyone I know is 110% behind these guys and gals and the job they are doing.
