Your local news.. ?

It was brought to my attention last night how abysmal our local news ( ITV and BBC ) is

In the last few weeks in Norfolk there has been a couple of rapes, a series of muggings and a stabbing
These are only the things I happen to know of
None of the above has been mentioned on any local television news programs.. Instead we have had stories of birds migrating, hospitals not coming up to code, school reports, pot holes, c list celebs in panto, etc etc

At first I thought it may be a case of them having issues with unsubstantiated reports, but a little digging and that is not the case.

On top of that, the reporters will repeat word for word the same thing in any given article, apparently to pad the time out..

Is your local news as bad as we have to put up with ?

ITV Meridian is actually pretty good. They do tend to cover the major issues that are occuring or have occured in the region (South).

Not so impressed with BBC south, but BBC Radio Berkshire is pretty good with keeping up to date with local current events.

I tend to avoid watching the news as it is so depressing and there always seems to be someone in the room who is a know all on whatever the subject is.

I guess that might be because it borders the midlands region, Banbury, etc, although they do cover significant or major stories in the north of the area.

Through watching Meridian I know more about Southampton and Portsmouth than Oxfordshire. We used to have a great local news programme then it was changed to Meridian gr0n:

Why would you want to watch the news?

Unless you like boredom, manipulation and depression.

They say life is what you make it, which I interpret as ignorance is bliss.

This only applies to stuff which I have no control over. If you can't help the situation, or the bad stuff has already happened, then why inject your brain with more negativity.

We each have enough crap in our lives, without being exposed to the woes of the whole bloody world (or even locally!).

In my opinion, the News is generally bad for our mental health.

Our local news isn't long enough to include all the trouble that has been going down in Preston, let alone Manchester and Liverpool.

We (in Preston) have had bomb scares, stabbings attempted police shootings and unexplained deaths and that is just within a week. Makes it sound like a right lawless shit hole :dunno: .... or it would do if it was included within the local News
