Just seen a guy whizzing down the hill past my shop on a scooter wearing a pair
of shorts !!! WTF..I don't know if he is plain stupid, hard as nails, or just doesn't give
a fuck....Then again maybe these attributes pretty much some up young blokes...
Maybe I too was once like that...I am feeling Old ..

Can remember riding my Triuph Speed Twin in jeans and a jean jacket no helmet and probably no gloves in the sixties and early seventies. Used to go to cadwell 60 to 70 miles away like that. Not now like you say getting old.

I was posh. Jeans, or working blue trousers, a leather flying jacket over a checked shirt, gloves and big boots. Only wore a helmet on a long trip. Never on a nice day. Fell off more times than soft mick but never hurt my head. Gravel rash on my hands once so always wore gloves after that. Young and incredibly stupid, but started wearing a helmet all the time after my cousin whacked his head on a pavement and lived for about six months in a mental home before thankfully dying.

When I was doing my bike licence I was shown a picture of a Tour De France rider that came off. Gravel rash to the full length of one side of his body and you could see bone in places. If that's what can happen coming off a bicycle imagine what happens coming off a motorbike.

I know that the pic was an extreme example but the image stuck with me, so all the gear all the time. Just wish scooter riders were given the same kind of warning.

Oddly I have always wore a bash hat, even before it was forced on us
Rarely wear anything other than jeans on me legs
If hot light jacket, if really hot T shirt
Rarely ride without good gloves

I wear what's comfortable for the prevailing conditions ;)

As long as you are well informed on the possible results of an accident I don't see a problem in wearing what you want while riding, the decision is yours alone to make!

What does annoy me is when you see a rider all togged up in decent kit & the pillion with nothing more protective than a helmet its one rule I have on this stuff, unless its a mate who knows the risks as well as I do then you aint getting on without reasonable kit to include properly fitting helmet, bike gloves, bike jacket & good boots, minimum

Crocs.

Oh dear.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear.
Other people find Jesus, I found Crocs.
Due to feet problems from birth I have never been comfy walking more than about 60-70 yards
Then about 8 years ago someone cajoled me in to trying them..
I can now walk all day long without discomfort :)

While they are never going to look cool of be fashionable I do have a very good reason for wearing them

Sad as it may be, I quite like the look of crocs !!

But .... Proper Crocs are about £28 a pair.. I get trough 3 pair a year.. At least I did
Not any more.. Previously, as soon as the treads wore out it was bin time, as worn out crocs on a smooth floor are lethal!!

But then I realised the sole and heel material is still very thick..
Using a dremmel with a cutting wheel I trace the original worn out tread and cut it deeper..
I have actually doubled the life of a pair now... I did try a second retread but ended up feeling sharp stones through the sole

I used to get it, but I seem to have 'out-grown' it. been free from it for the last 2 years.

I have been suffering for 3 or 4 years now & despite doing all the exercises having inserts from the hospital & even injections its still here as bad as ever, I sure hope I grow out of it soon

Its difficult to explain to anyone that hasn't experienced it but it affects every part of my life & really limits what I can do on bad days

You have my sympathy - I had a deteriorating condition in a big toe for a number of years - it seemed hard for others to,appreciate how depressing and wearing it is to have pain every time you walk.
